I just replaced both humbuckers in my import Hamer -- I put a GFS Mean 90 in the neck and a Gibson Burstbucker 3 in the bridge. I've never owned a P90 before but wanted to get some diversity in the tones available to me.
I am almost embarrassed to say that I am not noticing much of a difference in tone. I realize that the neck position is always going to be darker (and I was thinking that the Mean 90 would be good, in part, because it would be less muddy than the Duncan 59 that was there), but I expected to notice more of a difference. That said, I don't think it's just with these pickups -- I think that I have much difficulty telling the difference between pickups in general.
On a somewhat related note, the Mean 90 I bought is chrome-covered, and I would like to replace it with a black cover to match my bridge pickup. Does anyone have a black Mean 90 or cover that they wish to trade or sell?
