More Open G Fun....Black Crowes

Here's another song played in Open G tuning that I've been having some fun learning. This clip is a slightly abbreviated version of the first part of prolly my favorite Black Crowes tune, Sting Me, off their second CD, The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion.

Recorded with exactly the same equipment set-up as described in THIS POST, but I placed the mic differently and it sounds a lot better to my ear. Let me know if you think I'm right about that.

Nice playing Vood. What a difference in recording too. The BC tune seemingly has more reverb in the taping than the RS tune does.

Yeah, I think the recording quality on this one is a significant improvement. For that Stones clip, I had the mic right up against the speaker grille cloth, and it just caught too much bass that way. I had it backed off about 6" this time and it's much more balanced. The reverb setting on the amp was the same on both clips, but with this setup, you hear it more clearly.

Rich uses alot of open tunings...E and G and D too from what I recall. I love the Black Crowes.
