One of my firm's biggest clients is a Venezuelan-American Florida attorney who represents a lot of big companies from that country, as well as Venezuelans and other South Americans living here in Florida. His biggest client, which I've freqently done projects concerning, is a large Venezuelan company which until recently did a lot of business here in Florida.
So yesterday, this attorney and I are on the telephone discussing one of the cases I'm working on, and he says "By the way, we have a new client, you and I!"
I immediately cracked up laughing, as I do not co-counsel with him, such that his clients are not really my clients, and said, "Oh we do, do we?"
"Yes, a Mr. Chavez."
"First name wouldn't be Hugo, by any chance?" I said, expecting the answer "no."
"That's the one!"
Our client is actually meeting with him later this week. He has nationalized the company our client represents.
If you end up getting stopped at the airport, just say you never heard of me.
