My new pots!

Finally got the thumbwheel pots put on the Centura. Since I was going back to the original pick guard, a few weeks ago I plugged the hole that was drilled for the volume pot with mahogany. Was hoping that it might pass for an inlay or something. Sanded and followed with a couple of coats of Danish oil.

Last week I glued the support bracket and pick up to the old pick guard and got the new pots transferred today. First is a picture without the pick guard, I actually think it looks kinda cool, and she did open up a little when she was neked.

Then I took a picture of the original wiring so I could fall back on it later. That's when I realized it was different from the wiring diagram and y'all came to my rescue.

Then I installed the thumbwheel pots.

Here's a shot with the thumbwheels on.

And here's a shot of the installed pickguard.

The thumbwheels work great and sound great. They really do sound a lot better then the old ones, but I don't know if I can attribute that to the 500k pots or the different wiring.

The only bad thing is that in going back to the original pick guard, you can now see the wire.

I don't think the wire bothers me though. If at some point in the future I decide I can't live with it, I'll transfer everything back to the big pick guard and we'll see how that works.

I think it looks nice with the original size PG and the wire does not bother me.

Heh, heh, no it ain't just the picture Ted. Those are the flat wound jazz strings she came with, and they are some kinda LARGE gauge string. I've got some medium gauge flat wound jazz strings that I hope to put on her today.

i guess drilling a small hole under the small pickguard to run the wire through would be out of the question? I guess it depends on whether you think you would ever sell the guitar or not.... :whatever:

I was thinking the same thing, but the idea of drilling in to that guitar would give me some reservation. If it was made stock with the pots installed you know there would be a hole under that pick guard, so what the hell, get the drill out Shiner. Oh, drilling should be done prior to beer or you could end up with an off-center sound hole instead of a hole that only needs to accommodate a wire.

No offense guys, but I think I'd rather have the wire then drill a hole in her. If I change my mind at some point in the future, that's certainly an option.

Nice job with a perfect solution to the original problem, Shiner. You even improved things en route to the solution. :bravo:

As for that wire showing, IMO, it's no worse than a pg bracket that shows on most guitars with a suspended pg.

And I certainly wouldn't drill a hole in the top of that beautimous babe, because it's a guitar designed to be an acoustic first, modified to an electric.
