I'm not saying I need a new neck. I like the neck on my Strat. However, I am toying with the idea of getting a different kind of neck.

Initially I had though of getting another Strat with a different neck, but that will cost me. Instead, maybe I should just a buy a good neck on eBay or something and slap it on my existing Strat?

I am not quite certain which kind of neck I really want. I like the Telecaster necks, they are fast and slim. I like this 12" radius neck I have, but it's a bit hard to play faster stuff on (although maybe that is good so I can slow down :p ).

I will go and try different some different types of Strats in a store and make note what kind of neck and neck radius is on each.

So with all that rambling, what are some good options for buying necks? Bloozcat mentioned Mighty Mite, and there's Warmoth.

I am looking for a quality neck with medium or medium-jumbo frets. I like quite big frets - makes it easier to bend. Maple fretboard preferred but rosewood would work too. I am not looking for the cheapest decent neck - I'd rather pay more and get a really good one.

Well, I have yet to feel alot of necks.. but different types.. none of great quality for sure... except the last one I try to play on all the time.. Maple soft V Jimmie Vaughan neck... it just feels right "to me" at this point.. usually available on the e-bay.. my 2cents..

Neck 1-Piece Maple, Soft "V" Shape,
(Satin Polyurethane Finish) Fingerboard Maple, 9.5” Radius (241mm) No. of Frets 21 Medium Jumbo Frets

Can't get anymore better quality than a real Fender neck.
I really like that neck on my guitar, one of the best features in my opinion. But I wasn't sure if that was the kind of radius you were looking for. I was pretty sure Tone would bring it up. I think it fits the bill otherwise. Take a road trip on down here and you can check out the fires and try it out on my guitar! :DR

Robert you may have to square off the pickguard at the heel.
with a '51 neck. I do love those '51 necks.

Tone, do you think the screw holes will line on with my Deluxe Player's body?

He's asking about my MIM neck.

Don't know. Take some measurements and email them to me at yahoo. I'll check mine. Get me measurements of your heel cavity on the body and the actual neck and all the measurements on can on the hole locations. I'm on holiday now so email me at yahooski.

Ι think that the All part necks combine: quality, combatibility with Fender bodies, and good prices.
I think that you should choose a C-shaped Rosewood (or maple if this is your preferance) neck with 9.5" radius and 21 medium jumbo frets.

Also if you're interested to Fender necks only, I have read MANY possitive reviews about the Jimmie Vaughan maple neck. You probably will find a used one on ebay.

Finally, you can check the ebay store named "stratosphere". It has many original Fender necks in mint condition ;)

This is the Stratosphere ebay store:

I bought from him the All parts maple neck for my Blackie strat:

For me, the two strats to look at were mine and the JV. Since your experience and Lev's, and Elavd's, the deluxe and classic player's seem awesome too. For the necks, I looked really quick at the difference between the JV and mine (same as the one Tone is selling) and the main difference is mine is a Modern C shape and the JV is a V shape. I know Pete (StingX) loves his as does Justaguy. Seems like a trip down to a guitar store to try a JV or try to find one of mine might be in order. Here is a comment that caught my eye when I was looking at the ZZounds sight for specs on the 60th ann neck vs. the JV: (it comes from a user review of the 60th)

Value:
Best value for the dollar. It's like a Jimmie Vaughan Strat, with a modern C shaped neck.

Necks seem so personal, it seems you should try before you buy at the store and go with what fits. If you like the 60th, it seems Tone's would be a natural fit and would look great on that guitar. That allparts neck that Elavd posted pics of too looks great also, I just don't know how you would try one first and that is the way I would choose.

You guys are lucky that I package the things I sell sooo good. I've seen people walk into the Post Office with huge boxes wanting to ship with only one piece of tape holding everything together. :thwap: :nono: This neck is so pretty I almost welched on the sale. Genuine Fender maple neck in mint condition! Only the best for my friends. :AOK:

He does package things well. That DiMarzio humbucker he sent me was super padded. I hope you enjoy that neck Robert! Even if you don't end up wanting it on your blue guitar, and I bet you will, it will really dress up one of your others.

DVM - got a link to a recommended website for buying them?

Hey Robert, get Gotoh Vintage Staggered tuners. That way you can do away with the string trees (which just cause tuning problems).

Here is a link:

(no affiliation, they were just helpful when I bought some things from them. You should find the tuners on ebay as well :AOK: )
