New Strap - Otaypanky's Brookwood Leather

Guys, after pulling the trigger on an Agile AL3100 wide Root Beer, it would be a travesty to sling her with the crappy propylene (Nylon???) straps that I do have. I've been eyeballing the care Otaypanky puts into his straps at http://www.brookwoodleather.com/ but didn't pull the trigger till yesterday.

After several email exchanges where he asked for measurements and was an all round-general-good-guy, this is what I ordered.



Its the one on the right in the pic. Otay says that its not one of his better straps and that it was an experiment, but to me its awesome. I'm sure its killer and would be more than adequate for the new LP copy. I'll post pics when the strap gets here.

Great decision, Monkus! I ordered a strap from Bob and got it last night (he made mine super fast but Canadian Post is as slow as molasses.) My new strap is beautiful and super comfortable. I'll post some pictures this weekend but, in the mean time, check out this video Bob made while make my strap! :dude :happy

I talked to him via email about a strap as well. I will be interested to see some pics and hear your thoughts. I am very impressed with the workmanship I see on the vid, and the price point is not out of line for them.

Here's a couple of pictures of the guitar strap that Bob at Brookwood Leather (http://www.brookwoodleather.com/) made for me. The leather work is flawless and I just love the star inlays (I picked them out to remind me of Texas). The strap is super comfortable and more than supports my heavy SG. This strap is adjustable but Bob also makes some great cut-to-fit straps. Lastly, the leather quality is phenomenal; it's very soft yet super strong.

Bob does excellent work and he is a super nice guy to boot! If you are considering a custom strap you should definitely send him an email.

Yup, a really unique looking guitar. I dig the absence of inlays on the fretboard and the copper in the pickups. I wonder how they get the 2 tone coloring? Enjoy it Don :AOK

I gotta' agree. I'm not a fan of the rainbow colored Zoot Suit SG's but this one is really cool. The clear pickups and headstock seal the deal!

Thanks, guys! I didn't mean to buy a SG, or a new guitar for that matter, but when I picked it up, I just couldn't put it back down again. Now, if only I could play 1/10th as good as it looks.. no worries, I'll get there someday. :dude

It's actually a pretty interesting process

The new Zoot Suit from Gibson USA features a brand new body built with multiple birch wood laminate pieces, each dyed with a different color then compressed and bonded together to form one solid block of wood. No paint is used. Two coats of satin lacquer are then applied at a 30 sheen to provide a smooth finish and also help protect the body from any damage.

I know "laminate" tends to raise eyebrows, but honestly, this guitar has great sustain.

The reason I always carry a weapon, even in my home, or have one 'at the ready' on my night stand would be more understandable if you did a Google search of home invasions in Pa. It's frightening! I imagine it is the same in many parts of the country, and it's not going to get better either. I live 8 1/2 miles from Harrisburg, the Capital of Pa. Last June there were 11 shootings in 16 days, some in broad daylight on streets I travel. Every night on the news around here there are stories of shootings. Some folks think when they see I carry a weapon that I live in fear. Quite the opposite

Nuthin' wrong with being proactive and not becoming the next victim, especially in the situation you live near. "Head on a swivel" is the advice I give for people who already have or need street smarts. See a threat before it becomes a threat.

Your sidearm looks like what is sometimes called a "get off me" pistol. As in, something compact yet powerful enough to be effective. Excellent for surviving close encounters. Not likely something you fire thousands of rounds through for target practice.

In Texas, we open with a 9mm! I remember doing CPR on a perp that made the mistake of trying to shoot a cop (his POS pistol misfired). The cop's first 9mm lodged in the bad guy's sternum, because I could feel and see it during compressions. The cop's second round was a slightly right and down, likely hitting the left ventricle. The distance was about 30 feet. After that, the cop started using a .40 caliber.

We have boys at home, so we can't have loaded, unsecured pistols about the place. I'd consider a small 5 button firearm safe for that if I ever get a pistol again. The dogs are excellent alarms. Very few home invaders will enter a home with big dogs. We have a Remington 870 for home defense, as it won't likely penetrate 2 layers of 1/2" sheetrock. Ammo has to be well hidden and out of reach, however. When all else fails, proficiency with a WWII Japanese katana becomes Plan B.

That 870 saved her and the kids once when they lived in South Jersey. The crack head that pried open a window heard her chamber a shell as he was climbing in. As calm as a commercial pilot on the aircraft PA, she told him he had a choice: leave or die right there. He took off out of there, fast!

My kinda' woman! I like that. That's a little Ruger 380, no more noticeable than a cell phone. I have a Ruger 9mm and a S&W 357 magnum but they are bulky for carry. Along with a Remington 12 gauge they are easily accessible located in different areas of the house. We don't have kids so I don't worry. And you're absolutely correct, the 380 is not a range gun, although I have had it there a few times and I like it. I have a German Shepherd and a little runt that run our property. We have 5 acres, most of it wooded and brambles. The dogs are a good first alert.
I just came back from seeing a great chiropractor 45 minutes away in Maryland. While I was there I read a front page story in a newspaper about the capture of a couple of guys from a gang of 6 who last year pulled off 16 robberies and shot a convenience store clerk dead for no reason. We are the only species I know of that is so savage
