NGD.. Axl Badwater 1216

Stopped by a local guitar shop in town a couple of days ago and picked up an interesting Les Paul copy. It's an Axl Badwater 1216. Bought it with a hardshell case for $200. I believe the retail price on these Asian imports are $299 without a case. Normally you get what you pay for, but I was really impressed with the feel and sound of this guitar. Off-white color in a distressed look with "antiqued" finish hardware and EMG designed Alnico pickups. Inexpensive, but it looks and feels like a much more expensive guitar and is a blast to play. Once in a while you really do find a "cheapie" that surprises you.

Nice buy! I really like the off-white aged look it has. Not easy for an LP style guitar to have a unique look that is still attractive.

Set neck or bolt on? If you say set I might just have to have one of these I love the Gibson style tuning machines on it. Throw in some PAFs and instant Paul for under $300 with new pups.

Yeah, it's got a set neck. The shop I bought it from makes sure every guitar is set up before putting them out on display so when I played it the action and intonation was spot on. I just couldn't pass it up for the price they were asking. All I've done is slap on a set of new strings and install a set of Schaller strap locks. Stock pickups aren't bad in fact they give you a very full, open sound. As far as weight is concerned it is a bit on the heavy side, but to be honest I can't really find a fault in the guitar especially considering it's price.

I have an AXL strat copy, HSS. The tuners don't feel very nice, but it gets in tune and stays in tune. One of my friends has it, on permanent loan, and it's a darn nice guitar for the price (mine was 10 bucks at a yard sale).
