Hello,

I am sure Ted has been covered here before but...I was taking a look at this again after a hundred times and check out how high his pickups are at the beginning of this vid. Am I seeing things or are his pickups almost touching his strings? Especially the bridge pickup.
Looking again you can't even see the pole pieces.

Them Duke's had some snappy outfits. LOL

I keep my pickups up very high too. The closer to the strings they are the hotter the sound. Too close though and the magnetic field prevents the strings from vibrating as fully - which can be a good thing too if it produces the sound you're after.

Aside from always enjoying that tune.If you are seeing things so am I.they're close alright.the poles can be seen but only if you look real hard or use the blowup feature you tube provides.that small box on bottom right corner.had to do that to double check making the vid as big as your screen,my axe has similiar action it is a semi elec/acous thinline not archtop like he appears to use.the PU poles are adjustable to tweak to get the sound you want.personally keep them half up or down whichever you prefer.works out alright for me, depending on the project/song at hand

Rocket, That is what I was thinking. They used to pantomime all time on these shows. It sure looks odd.

looking at that vid again I don't recognize the nuge with a guitar like that either.I've seen him a number of times.perhaps once with the Dukes long ago.otherwise it was that Derek St Holmes(second guitarist) that also rocks.No prob M29 on the tip.not realizing it was a a show vid one can easily be fooled.. nailed me good

I just noticed something. Is that an extra soundhole inside the cutaway (on the right side of the pic) or decorative paint? I've seen soundholes there on custom acoustics but never on a HB.

Viewing it with my aging eyes (never thought I would say that being only 23) it appears to be decorative paint. I'm basing that on the line going up the neck. Or the line starts where the soundhole ends.

Saw that on the next page no doubt something used on one of the many concerts not seen. looks almost Gretsch - like don't it?

The guitar is a Gibson Birdland. Whether or not I agree with his political views he is a rocking guitarist.
