I played a Martin DR yesterday... nice guitar!

It IS a nice guitar. The rosewood bodies sound looovely don't they! I would have been just as happy getting the DR too but since Guitar Center online had the solid rosewood body version I went with that one. $100 less too. Go figure.

Cheers to all my Fret buddies!
As a fan of a true dry gin martini, I would argue that the none of the above are martinis beyond the glass. Tanqueray or go home!

You gotta have one...here try this...

And don't tell me you don't want olives in it!
That's more like it! For my money, there are few things better than a gin-soaked olive.

The first thing I noticed when I opened the case of my new OM-21, was the overwhelming smell of fresh wood. The second thing I noticed was the striking beautiful tone and the amazing sustain. Yep, guess what they say about Martins is true, you're gonna love her!!

Selfbuilt Martin

A friend of mine who sells Martin s guitar ,told me that you can buy a self building Martin kit for a much lower price ..You just have to be clever and patient..

To those who might be interested...

:whatever:

Something in the UPS trucks I hope.. GAD30R
Gotta keep up with Tone and those Washburn Washouts!!
Dagnabit..they brought G.A.S. with them in the Acoustic department!!
I'm sure you'll like it. I have only had good to excellent experiences with them...

The Martin showed up on Saturday. Didn't get to play it until later that evening as we had a birthday party for my daughter that day. Here are a few quick photos...

Yeah this is a box. But not just an ordinary box...it's a magic box. ;) I was impressed with how well taken care of this box was in delivery. Martin takes the extra step in making sure your guitar arrives in the best condition possible. There are careful instructions to the owner on the box describing how to inspect the package and instructions on what to do if you see the slightest bit of damage to the box etc. Never seen that before on a guitar box!

After taking the case out of the box and removing the plastic around the case I opened her up and the first thing you get is a wonderful whiff of new guitar aroma. Ahhhhhhhhhh. I don't know what it was...the lacquer or the wood or a combo of everything but there's no scent like it anywhere. Next thing I did was play it (did Heart Of Gold, Justa ;) ) and was surprised that it was still in fairly tuned condition considering the ride out of Kansas City. Had to tweak a couple of strings but the SOUND coming from it was heavenly. Deep warm acoustic tone and the sweetest highs you could ever hear. Balanced everwhere. This is an incredible instrument of the highest quality. On the neck block inside the guitar is the C.F. Martin & Co. insignia stamped on the wood with serial number and model name of the guitar. My model name simply says "Custom". :) I though that was pretty cool.

The back and sides are solid rosewood (beautiful grayish reddish brown color with gorgeous striping in the grain), solid Sitka spruce top and is double bound on the top and bottom. Satin Nitro finish. Another cool thing was that the strings were gold (B and E are gold colored instead of the standard nickel color). I will have to find out what Martin strings these are. This guitar is simply amazing and beautiful and I'm beside myself with satisfaction and customer pride. Long live C.F. Martin & Co.

Yeah, more pics (back, inside the sound hole, closer look at the sides, headstock and fret board shots, not to be too demanding ;) ), and really some clips this time bro! Heart of Gold at least!! I am so jealous!! Congrats to you, my dogtown brother!!!

Thanks you guys. I know I need to take more pics for sure. I just snapped those after I opened it and well I wasn't going to waste time taking any more I was going to play that baby!

Steve - the sound hole has a nice rosette round it and where you'd normally see the guitar sticker glued to the back of the body you see nothing. This model is apparently a "Custom" model as it's stamped that way on the neck block hence no round label.

Voo - You think the SM57 will record the tone decently? My digi cam video feature sucks! I'd need a fancy camera like Robert's.

Warren - Like I said I barely took the 3 snap shots you're right!

Oh yeah I gotta say too that the case is nice. Very fancy and the guitar sits in there like a glove.

that looks awesome Tone!! :bravo:

I really like the middle darker stripes running the full length!

I wanna see the soundhole and back shots now...:)

Ya think they put those gold strings on knowing heart of gold would be first? :master:

Congrats Buddy!! Class all the way!

I am worried it's in the bedroom though.. :thwap:

Roh-bear - I'll see what I can duuu. I'll try the 57.

Thanks Kata!

Thanks Justa! Ok I gotta ask cause maybe I'm not seeing it...but why are you worried it's in the bedroom?

I think I know what you're getting at though. heh

Congrats! We want clips, videos, review, drool talk - all of it!

SM-57 would work. Not perfect for an acoustic perhaps, but I'm sure you can get a good recording that way.

It is what I used for that recording I sent you Tone, and posted here in my guitar set up thread. I thought it needed a little brightening in the eq, but maybe yours won't. I just sat with the SM 57 a few inches to half a foot away from the base of the sound hole.

That backordered V63m showed up here without warning...

Although my first Condenser Mic, Condenser mics are way cool for acoustics.. been messing with it and my Old Dread.. picks it up across the room and next to it.. adds some air to the sound.. I have the sm57, would think a combo of both types would be cool... time will tell...

Martins and Mics.. Tone's new heaven..;)

Ok now I need a condenser mic. More gas. I love this place.
