Hey, i bought a Boss br 600 digital recorder recently, my first recording device since a portasound 4 track tape machine, and been playing with it a bit, still in the experimentation stage. Anywho ive made 2 songs on it and i thought id share and get some honest feedback, so i know what to improve in my future attempts.
All i used was my chinese made Les Paul Gibson and the Br 600 with inbuilt drum machine.
Im not an overly skilled guitarist and just play by ear, but here are my efforts

These are pretty cool tunes. Thought the playing was good on both, particularly on the first one. Sounds like you're having good luck with the Boss technology. I have a BR-1200, older model. Works well although I've had trouble getting good drumming consistently -- probably more a reflection of me than the technology. Did I hear a strong bassline in the tunes? Could have been more dominant for my taste. Assume you're using the Boss effects? Mine sound kinda cheesy recorded, so I tend to use outboard stuff into the mixer without effects. But yours sounds pretty decent. Good work. Let's hear some more!

I did put a bassline in the tunes but not very impressed with the recorders bass effects as they dont seem to come through to well, or its just me not utilising them properly and having to play them on the guitar. But i agree need more bass.

Been working on another tune the last few weeks but keep re-recording stuff, and also working on slowing down the tempo a bit. I seem to like 160-180bpm, probably due to my influences.

I found you need to eq the heck out of the bass stuff to get it to come through, if that helps at all. Ended up buying a cheap bass and making that work.

Thanks for that helliot, played around with the eq and i think i may be getting somewhere with the bass. Created two more songs which to my untrained ears seems to be a bit of an improvement.

and then i decided to have a go at creating a cover, so i tackled Metallicas version of Ecstacy of Gold, originally by Ennio Morricone from the film the good the bad and the ugly. No video for this one yet.

Couldn't get the second one to play -- Ampster kept kicking me out. The first one sounds great, neat video, too. You've already passed me in terms of using more of the Boss capacity -- almost like an instrument. Liked the segues and movement in and out of rhythms in the first one. Second one sounded promising for the few seconds I had it before it booted me. Pretty impressive results using that technology. And like I said, if you work on manipulating the various effects and tones you get some very credible sounding guitar. Looking forward to hearing more.

Wasnt too happy with my mastering effort on ecstacy so redoing it. Learn more things each time i use the machine, and it still has lots of features i havent touched.
