Hi!
A question to you fretters, I use pick with thickness 0.73mm. What thickness
do you use? A certain brand? Size?
Does anyone have the recipee for the best pickthickness for playi´n the blues??

As thick as possible!

I love Big Stubbys 3.0, but also the 2.0 mm dunlop standard.

I generally like .80 to 1 mm, but I'm not married to a brand or material. Clayton Acetyl, Clayton Black, Dunlop nylon or tortex or Gator Grip, Fender heavy, whatever. I'm liking the white Clayton acetyls lately because the logo is a little sticky.

Dunlop Jazz III small red pointy ones, I think they are 1.38 mm. I want to try V-picks but have not got around to getting some yet.

I tend to use lately Dunlop Tortex .88 (green) on my electric, and 1.14 (purple) on my acoustic. I used to favor Fender Heavy, tortoise shell, and still like that flavor. I have not got used to the thicker purple ones on my electric yet, but plan to experiment. I have thought about trying a thicker jazz pick, or one of those V-picks, but haven't got 'round to it.

Okey, so the majority players use thick picks. I used a 1.00 yesterday (had an old basspick) and I must say I liked the tone it gave. Perhaps I´m gonna change for a while and try out 1.00-2.00, yepp I will try out a thicker pick for a while. Of to the musicstore I go!

In general, heavier picks give you a fatter thumpier tone (especially on acoustic instruments), and you get more control because the pick doesn't flex as much. Of course technique plays a big role; I find I can get a pretty decent tone from thinner picks if I really pay attention to my attack.

or these

I have both, any of the pointy ones have been worn round.

Love them both, takes a little more control when strumming, I tend to turn them sideways or just relax my fingers to allow the pick to move freely.

They have the second type at my local store and I have thought about trying them out. I would likely choose the slightly rounded point ones that are largest in the photo.

I find myself switching pics alot. Mostly I use Fender mediums but sometimes will use a Clayton .80mm or 1.00mm pick. I tend to like the Fender mediums alot (California clears) for chords and some soloing, but sometimes will pull out the Claytons. It's not just the feel of the pick though that influences what I use, but also the tone I get from the pick.

Even the pointy ones will turn round in a short period of time, but I tend to play the rounded ones, may take some time to get used to but you'll never turn back.

i actually use the rounded side of the big stubby's with the pointy part pointing toward my palm/wrist....

I just started using the Dunlop Jazz III's (black). I had read such good things about them I had to try them. I really like them. Good control and they don't fall out of my fingers (yet!).

In my ignorance, I didn't realize a pick could make that much difference in sound. I had always used a Fender medium but last week picked up, by chance, a standard Dunlop nylon .80, just because of the texture and my tendency to drop the ones I had, and was quite shocked by the volume. After reading this I think I'll try some Big Stubbies and see where that goes.
Thanks guys!

I like the stubby's, but I also have been buying different thicknesses of Ice Pix Stix. They have a micro suction pad that allows you to stick them to your guitar when not in use, which is great if you want different thicknesses handy. However, the suction pad makes the pick thicker at the holding section and eliminates the movement of the pick or dropping of the pick.

I will warn you that if you think sticking them on your guitar will prevent you from misplacing them, it won't, I still lose picks.

They are the ones on the left.

I'd be worried that if I lost one of those picks, the guitar would go with it

seriously, though, that's just pretty damn neat.

what's nice about it is it sticks by suction, so there is no residue on the guitar from an adhesive. When they get dirty, just wash them off with water. A good selection of thickness also.

I think I'll try those ice-picks! Cool.

Currently use .73mm most of the time, sometimes something thinner, sometimes a little bit thicker. I like a thinner pick .6mm or so for strummy acoustic but am getting the feel for a thicker pick for, well, "picking".

over the last few years been listening/reading all the different types..
trying them..
But due to cheapness on my part..
Just recently realized I have settled on a pick..
I find the only one I been using the last year or so
are fender 354's in heavy.. sometimes medium..
and always cheap by the 1/2 gross
As the grandbabies steal them all the time!:rotflmao:
