I wanted to do the same thing with my first guitar: an acoustic. In retrospect, I should have. It could have been considered "urban renewal."

We had this same discussion over on the Washburn forum and I went through google photos and found one just like my first guitar. Purchased from Western Auto Hardware. It seemed to weight 15 lbs, sounded like crap (or I did) and I would play it through a large reel to reel.

I was probably somewhere between 8 and 10. We had no money for lessons, so I didn't play again until a little over a year ago. Unfortunately I'm not 13, so there is a very large gap between then and now.
