Wow, you are in for a smile this time! :)

>> Renman & Åberg 1988

This is a recording I did on a 4-track Fostex as a teenager back in 1988. My friend Mattias found the recording and decided to email to me yesterday. He played some keyboards on it.

I was completely taken by surprise by getting this! It's really fun for me to get in touch with Mattias again, since I haven't talked to my old friend in probably 10 years or more.

The drums are HILARIOUS - please excuse the terrible drum programming by me :(

I used an Ibanez JEM - 777 back then (green, with monkey grip) and I think I used a little Zoom to go straight into the 4-track recorder.

Can you tell what kind of guitar players I listened to back then? ;)

Terrible? Sweeeeet to me Robert.. Well done.. you boyz was rock'n... you can't beat that teenage shred'ur if ya wanted to.. now go do an updated version..:)

Listening to your music, I have learned a few things:

Sweden produces great guitarists. Maybe it's the water?
For 1988, the tones are incredible, and the drumming ain't that bad.

I need to practice more. Or throw my guitars in a wood chipper and give up, or something.;)

Good stuff, man! I love the harmonies.

Ok, the 777 gave me all the clues I needed... lol

Great recording, very good quality for a porta recording!

Absolutely amazing Robert. Sounds like you had the beat back them to. Excellent playing and the recording sound very nice for being a “vintage 1988” Robert.

Yes in deed. Sweden does produce some very good guitar players. If it’s in the water … send me a case please.

Wow Robert, awsome.. put me down for 2 cases of Swede water please, I'll need one case to put out my gear after I set fire to it.

Nice one, cool to hear something of your wild rock n' roll years.
I'm gonna move to sweden, it isn't even that far away.

Robert,

That was fantastic playing, and the composition and arranging are top notch as well. Great stuff. I like the harmonized leads. Did you play those with a harmonizer patch or did you double track those lines?

Great playing.

You didn't harmonize them? Umm. Wow! (Matt sits in his office, dumbfounded)

Thank you guys for all your comments. Marnold, they are harmonized, but not by a harmonizer box - I recorded one guitar with the main harmony "melody", then recorded another guitar on a different channel with a different harmony, most often a 3rd up of the scale, I think. Been a long time... I was very inspired by Steve Vai back then...
It's cool you guys actually like it... I am mostly embarassed!

Yeah, I should have been more clear. I should have said, "You didn't use a harmonizer?" Since you were in such good time with yourself, I would have suspected a harmonizer. Nothing to be embarassed about there!

That was way cool! Nice to hear those influences. Steve Morse as well maybe?
Now I know why you want a tattoo.

Robert, did you also have the hair style that is associated with those kind of flaming licks? ;)

of course he did :D :DR ...
