I've never heard of Rocktron before. What's up with these?

I havent tried those units, but if you manage to find a Rocktron "Chameleon On-Line" buy it! Its a older unit but sounds fantastic.

Rocktron used to make a lot of neat rackmounted preamps and hush units back in the 80s.

Odd, I always thought that Boston's Tom Scholz started Rocktron, but the official Rocktron site seems to speak differently.

Actually you are thinking about the Rockman corp. Tom Scholtz had something to do with the genesis of the company and engineered some (all?) of the products. He has a master's degree in mechanical engineering from MIT.

I believe Rocktron came along in the mid-to-late 80s after the success of Rockman in the late 70's early 80's. I assume the Rocktron company wanted the consumer to equate the name Rocktron with Rockman. I guess it was careful marketing. I have made the name switching mistake before, too.

I could tell you but you might end up being chased by a black BMW from Rocktrons security department... I think I will get one again, I played a lot on one when we had it in the store that I was working in... sadly it didnt stay there for long. It would be a perfect compliment to the TL.. mmm.. gas..

I had some Rocktron stuff back in the early 90's and it killed me. The devices changed my natural amp sound and especially my Intellifex had tons of digital fizzling. No comparison to the chip technology that we are used to nowadays.

I once read an article about the Prophecy and played it later on in a music store. Let me be honest: It sounded bad, very very bad, no one wants that sound, really.

The only thing that I would buy is the Replifex that features a ton of retro effects that really sound warm.
