Rp350

Well I received the RP350 I got off of e-bay - brand new, in the box.

I can't post a review since I still don't know what I'm doing. I have to start reading the manual and I'm hoping that it's like a cell phone manual where there is a lot of common sense stuff or I'll be reading the remainder of March and all of April.

Just playing around it has some nice sounds that I will need to tweak and some sounds that I will probably never use or at least not use in the near future.

Wingsdad, thanks. I was up until about 2:00 AM this morning messing around with it. Got up at 8:00 and turned it back on. It's a fun and relatively inexpensive tool.

Excellent RP350

I got one a few months ago and am highly impressed. You can take a simple tube amp like a Palamino V8 with just three extremely limitted knobs and turn it into a tone monster. That V8 can really sound awesome with that RP350. Also I use it with lots of other amps, including the VJr and 'Lil Giant heads.

One use I have for it is recording to my computer and also monitoring thru my portable Kustom Profile One PA. That works more than awesome. One thing I noticed and I don't even know how it happens, but it does; is that when I record into Sony Acid and lay down my backing track and then play it back, it comes thru the portable PA that's hooked up to the RP350 and only connected to the computer with the usb or firewire cable, whichever it is.

That arrangement worked so good that I had it hooked up and planned on leaving it that way just for recording and I bought a Korg AX5G for general multi effects pedal use, but I decided to disconnect the RP350 to use it because it's better. I left the hookups in the right spot though so I can rehook it up for recording with my Lexicon Omega. The RP is plugged into the computer via the cable and into the Omega via quarter inch plugs and into the PA from the Omega via quarter inch plugs. I think the RP is designated as the playback device in the Acid control panel. I should use it more because it's complicated.

I have been thinking lately when I get into extended rythym grooves that they would be great recorded as backing tracks that I could save. So I should reset up the RP and leave it set up so I can do that and then work on some lead parts and vocal tracks.

Also, I should try to make use of the drum beats. I'm a drummer myself and have to get used to the beats because they are for the most part beats I wouldn't play. I wonder if you can download different beats. I think Acid has beats built in and you can buy loops by Mick Fleetwood and maybe others as Acid add ons. Supposedly they will work with my version of Acid. There are lots of different versions. I think mine is version seven.

The RP 350 made me realize that you can get multiple effect sounds and tonal variations without getting the additive noise built up by chaining individual pedals. All the connectors add noise. Every jack has some noise it adds, plus every jack circuit probably adds some noise. At the end of a long chain your amp can sound really noisy. With the RP there is no noise. The Korg AX5G doesn't produce noise either and I use it all the time but it is not as good as the RP.

I would say the RP has a long learning curve if you want to maximize your knowledge of how to really get it to respond to where you are trying to go with it; same with the Korg AX5G. I have only skipped across the surface of them and am not an expert. I should learn how to properly use them and program my own effects. I just want to play and I find lots of presets that many others have complained about to be satisfactory to have a lot of fun with. Getting serious would probably yield some nice user settings that I would enjoy. A thread on user presets would be a big help.

I know you will have fun with your RP no matter how deep you get into it.

Do you or anyone else run a Jamman (or something similar) along with the RP (again, or something similar)? I was curious of your results and the routing you are using

The best results are to always have the looper last in the chain. guitar>RP350>Jamman>amph.
