Second Strat built, the Survivor! UPDATED 2/22/2009

This is other current build...

This is my very first electric guitar. Some people here might have seen all the pickguard variations it has gone through...Well, blame it on GFS, now it's going through a deep makeover! In fact, only the body will be original.

This is it, stripped and with a cloned Strat neck installed. The body has natural relicing done by 10 years of abuse, getting pawned a couple of times, and falling from a height of six feet. I had to fill the holes and redrill them to fit the neck, and now it's tight!

And here's where GFS enters the picture: I bought one of those Squier 51 pickguards they have on clearance...And it fits great!

It comes pre-drilled with two holes for knobs. One will be turned into the input jack hole, and I will drill another one higher up for the second knob. I also have to install some sort of switch, but I'm still thinking what to put in...

Yep, I'm nuts.

Nuts in a cool way! Great idea :bravo:

Looks like the swimming pool route is going to accommodate everything nicely. Does the hole you're using for the input jack happen to line up with the jack rout in the body?

Thanks! :D Yep, the rout lines up with the lower hole, so I should be good to go.

For pickups, I'll put in the 20+ year old PAF-style unit I have, and maybe a Tele bridge pickup on the neck.

We'll see.

Wow, thanks for posting that!
I replaced basically everything on my old Squier with GFS bits too, but after doing so realised going from SSS to HSS was still too many combinations for this simple guy, and ever since have been considering either H-H or H-S configurations for another makeover.

Seeing how awesome that pickguard looks on yours (mine has a black body also) has got me thinking......

That not only looks way cool, but I bet she'll sound really sweet too! Good luck Kerc!

Okay, some updates...First, I had to do some routing to fit the pots and output jack, so...armed with a drill, I did the following:

So after that was done, and a lot of eyeball engineering, I drilled the pickguard and installed the output jack, pots, and a LP-style switch:

So this is how it looks, after fitting some Fender amp-style knobs...

And a look at the whole thing:

I like where this is going... :D

Lookin good, I love this two pickup combination like the Squier '51. Keep it up Kerc.
