Slowing down songs

I'm trying to work on my solos, so is there a good way to slow down a cd so I can hear whats going on? My other option is to try and impovise one of my own. But my phrasing and improvising really sucks.

Rip it to Windows Media Player, click on "Play" on the menu bar and highlight "Playback Speed" and select "Slow". Slick and CHEAP! :AOK: Algonquin told us about this track a couple of months ago. Somebody did say that it only works with mp3's and not wav files. But, Audacity will also do it.

Quicktime will slow anything to half-speed too.

This has come up several times. Audacity will do it and it just happens to be some sweet recording software too. And it's free.

Thanks for all the info. I went to windows medea player and amazing slowdowner and played around with those two.

I also found a web site called axmaster. Has anyone played around with it?

I use Riffmaster Pro, a software program developed by a guy in Austrailia.At 49.00 it can't be beat. You can loop a passage and slow it way down or completely change the pitch for key transposition. I have no affiliation with them, just a satisfied customer. riffmasterpro.com :AOK: Mike

I use the MP3 (MP3-GT1) version of the Tascam shown above. Nice little piece for ~$200. 1Gig of built in memory. Slow down & speed up without changing the pitch, or detune the song to match your guitar without speed change. Section looping, and guitar cancellation, and a pile of built-in effects. Rechargeable batteries last about 9 hours.

To me, worth every penny.

Now I've got a copy of all of the albums I own on this PC. I only ever use Windows Media Player (can't be bothered to change it). I've been using it for about 3 years. And that's the first time I've heard about slowing the tracks down with it.

So I've tried it. It even corrects the pitch. :master:

Another way is if you're a Pro Tools user (ver. 7.4 & above) you can use "elastic time" to change the speed of the solo part but still keep the same pitch.

there is another good program called transcribe by seventh string.....you can slow down and also loop sections of a song...
