Have you tried the Hellatone? Cool name, sounds like it would enjoy sitting in my Hellhound! Any comments about Avatar speakers or others appreciated. I need at least 50w rating, 8 ohms.

Robert - I'm not sure exactly what "tone" you're looking for w/ your speaker change-out. One of my playing buddies just put a 12" Eminence "Swamp Thang" speaker in his line-out cab, and it sounds really nice. Eminence has quite a # of speakers in their Patriot / Redcoat line, and they're reasonably priced as well. You might want to consider one of them for your amp. Unfortunately, there's no sound bytes so you can hear what they sound like. They do, however, have some good descriptions of the sound characteristics. I'm thinking of getting a "Swamp Thang" for my Peavey 112E cabinet, which I think would be a nice tonal contrast the Celestion V30 that I have in my Classic 30 amp.

Robert - I was wrong about there being no sound clips on the Eminence site. As a matter of fact, there are quite a few of them. Use this link instead:

Go to the "Resources" tab on the top menu, and then to the "Guitar Speaker Clips" tab about mid-way on the drop-down menu. There's (11) sound bytes of what I'm assuming are the most pouplar models. For the speakers that don't have sound clips, there are some fairly good descriptions on how they sound, or perhaps a schematic. Good luck!

Thanks Nelskie! I have heard a lot of good comments about the Eminence speakers. I'm not sure how to describe what tone I'm looking for. A Fenderish clean tone with some punch to it? I then use pedals to overdrive.

Try listening to the Red White & Blues Patriot speaker Robert (if you haven't already). It'll give you that nice Fender clean tone and still do a nice OD tone when pushed.

I'm kind of partial to the Wizard (Redcoat series), but then I like the Celestion G12H30 tone. The Wizard is voiced to sound like a G12H30, but with a little more upper mids.

The Red/White/Blue Patriot seems to be the way to for me. Now I just need to find out where I can buy it here in Canada. My Alltone in my Hellhound just isn't working that great anymore. I think I killed it by playing too loud!

I know this is an old post.. but I also noticed there never was a sound clip attached.. here is a link with Celestion Vintage 30 Vs Celestion Hellatone... actually a Celestion Hellatone 60L... about 8 minutes long and you can hear the difference... which is perferred? Guess thats up to the player.. both sound darn good to me
