As most of you members who have been around since the beginning of the Fret Net know I have been struggling with scales, riffs and soloing. Yep! That brick wall has not been knocked down yet. I swear it’s a brain malfunction. Anyway, I recently purchased a book, which gives a zillion examples of scales and all the other things mentioned. I have been running through some of the easier scales bending, hammering and sliding on them strings.

This brings me to a crossroads that I hope some of you backing track makers can help. I was wondering if anybody could record small 12 bar blues, rock or jazz backing tracks? All examples in the book are written for the key of “A”. I only need simple chords. Any of the below chords will help me immensely. You don’t need to make anything long. 12 bars will be enough. I intend to place them in my looper pedal for practice. Hopefully you can upload them to the Fret Net so other beginners can benefit from them also.

A - D - E
A – D7 – E7
Am7 – Dm7 – Em7
A9 – D9 – E9

Or does anybody know where one can buy backing tracks? Thanks for any help.

This might help you get started, Tim. There are several lying around here in A if you backtrack through the BT's. I usually try to note the key the BT's in when I send it to the Box, and whether it's slow blues, rock, etc.

Marnold – You provided excellent references to which I am grateful. These tunes will help me a lot with what I requested (and without any extra recording from any Fretters). I will be able to use several of the songs in the key of “A” to practice with. After I hopefully improve my soloing, I can move on to the other songs and the keys they are played in.

I have one question . . . are all these songs played in the minor keys? It seems to me that the minor scales are played on all of the songs. Thanks again.

OldGuy – Thanks for pointing these out to me. I had forgotten they where back in the Fret Net archives. I found three and will search to see if there are anymore.

Now all I need to do is figure how all this stuff goes together without getting frustrated. Thanks for all the samples that I was pointed to.

In all honesty, I'm not sure. I haven't listened to all of them yet even though I downloaded them some time ago. I'd say try the blues scale (minor pentatonic plus the flat 5) and see how it goes. By the by, I just noticed that that site I linked to is gone now. I don't know if they are having technical difficulties or what.

Some of the tracks are in the wrong key? Download http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ you can then import the tracks you want to play over and using the pitch shifter change the key to 'A' or any other key if you want to strech your playing further.........

Thanks Fingers. I did not know that a song's key could be changed using Audacity. Although I have come to the conclusion to practice songs in their original key.

Thanks HFOB. I will use this to try and copy your bass line riffs. Hopefully I can figure out what notes you played on the bass fretboard and I can emulate the same on my guitar. Nice walk downs by the way.

Not me playing anything though, just a BT I had saved from who knows where. Could work as a base for recording the diff chord progressions you originally mentioned. I'll look for some more in A soon also and post any I find.
