Since summer is fully here I've been noticing a lot of adult spiders and wondering if I need to freak out or not. I saw one on a bike ride that was as big end to end as my Dano Chicken Salad pedal and started trying to find out what it was. I stumbled across this web (ha, ha) site. There is a lot of good photos and information to aid you in identifying the creepies that you find.

For the amazing amount of other creepy insects that each spider consumes... I say spiders are a good thing :AOK:

I think so too, but like pes, I don't like them either.

I used to be pretty phobic until I found out that 98-99% of spiders can't penetrate human skin and/or will render a bite that's harmless to humans. I've gotten to the point where I can pick up the smaller ones in my hand to put them back outside where they belong.

Sorry Warren if you are checking in.

Outdoor spider in our back yard.

You wouldn't want to mess with the house spiders, they are one badddd (shut your mouth), I'm just talking about spiders.

Well Spud.......you have a lot of spiders this year I think in part due to all the rain you had this year.

Strum.........dude, who's the spider keeper in your house? Those are some seriously awesome tarantulas. What do you feed them? COOL :AOK:
What species are they?

BC loves tarantulas too.

They belong to my son (along with a snake and a couple of scorpions). I believe the bottom one is a Vietnam Bird Spider -I guess they eat birds in the wild, but crickets is the diet in captivity. You don't even want to think about putting your hand in its cage. The other I believe is a Rose Hair, I use to be able to handle it, but over time it has gotten a little more agressive. My son still handles the Rose Hair, but I stay clear.

i like spiders.

im personally a big fan of Goliath Bird Eaters, just for their sheer size and cool factor, and also when you bring them to england they do a good job of decreasing the nusiance bird/pigeon problem.

Spiders are cool with me as long is they don't:

1.Exist in my presence
2.bite me
3. Crawl on me

i once had 16 cobalt blue tarantulas on me at once...

tickley as hell, with those fluffy legs and all.

1. the ones who have skinny legs - just like in humans i find it creepy

2. the ones who could kill you (the brown recluse for example ^^^^^)

there not 'rare' as such, just generally a little harder to find than the regular sandy brown and wood red colours. Suprisingly, they're not particularly expensive either.

tell your son not to buy a brown recluse. Annoy one and this is the likely outcome...

We get the brown recluse in northern Ohio and you have to be careful in the shed or wood piles. They are not real common, but they exist here.

And that is why I love michigan

In my earlier {and duller} years I remember playing football with a camel spider out in the Middle East , from the rumours going about at the time they could apparently jump 5m , inject anesthetic before devouring large chunks of your flesh while you unknowingly slept and probably run 100m in under 9 secs . You can`t beat a bit of risk in your sport .

I'm an arachnophobe, and in my line of work I often have to be in crawlspaces. You can imagine how much I love that. You just have to turn a blind eye to them somewhat, and focus on the job. The crawlsuit and gloves do help.

From what I hear, we do get black widows here in this part of Oregon. I thought I saw one once, but I can't be sure. Word to the wise, Heywood; don't fondle any shiny black spiders!

 That doesn't sound like much fun. Damn, you just made my skin crawl. Eww.
