This version of Stagger Lee

http://www.jaronrovensky.com/tracks/Live_In_Camrose/07-StaggerLee.mp3

with our own Robert playing got me thinking of the many possible ways of playing this old tune.

The Grateful Dead (of course):

Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds:

The Black Keys (Stack Shot Billy):

Mississippi John Hurt (double "Of Course"):

Samuel L Jackson (Stack-O-Lee):

RL Burnside during the same version (Stack-O-Lee):

The Isley Brothers (Stagger Lee)

Lloyd Price (Stagger Lee)

Good thread tot. I have long been collecting as many takes on the Stack & Billy story as I could find.

Don't forget this one...

The Clash - Wrong 'Em Boyo

Which is really a cover of this one...

The Rulers - Wrong 'Em Boyo

I don't have youtube access at work, and I don't know if they have a clip anyway, but Aussie band Magic Dirt do Stagger Lee too. It's interesting to hear it with a female vocal.

The Samual L Jackson version gave me chills in the cinema. I LOVE that version. the guitar sound is soooooooo nice.

Ah yes Jipes. Thanks, I should not have neglected Taj. He's the Good Man.

I had never heard the Chris Whitely & Jeff Lang version before. The 29 second clip that I could find was killer. Dislocation Blues was great as well.

It was worth starting this thread just to hear that.

Don't get me started with Chris Whitley :rotflmao: otherwise the all Fret pages won't be enough space to tell how much I praise this artist :master:
