On Friday I decided to order a set of Keystone's for my Strat, total cost was less than $85! Its going to take 9 - 14 days because they are hand wound.
Ive read lots of really good things about these pickups, many reviews read as though theyve tried all the major manufacutres bests and stopped swapping after they recieved their set of Keystones(weather it be for a Strat or Tele)...although I havent had an oppritunity to try a set yet, I figure theyre cheap enough and they get great reviews, these have got to be a good place to start :whatever:

Next is pots, cap and a new switch...all for the sunburst:AOK:
Im kinda stoked for a new project!

I'll be interested to hear what you think of these.

I've always liked Bill Lawrence's pickups. I bought three L-90XL rail humbuckers back in the 80s at a store closing clearout. These were among the best humbuckers I've heard. Unfortunately they were not made well, and fell apart after a short while :(

I also have a newish set of 290/280/280 B/M/N pups that I need to put in something.

Were these actual Bill Lawrence pickups or were these the ones produced by the company that is currently using his name?

Those pups are long gone. The issue was that the mounting ears were weak and broke off. Too bad, because those pups sounded great. They had the clarity of a strat pickup, but the beef of a humbucker. I believe he has reissued them. I'm going to have to pick up a set.

The 290/280s are noiseless.

Actual Bill Lawrence pickups. I believe mine were circa 1978-1979. They were NOS, never sold.

True Bill Lawrence pups are made by Bill & Becky and include the Keystone line and Wilde pups.
