Hey folks,
I have recently seen this very entertaining, truth bearing movie from 2008.
The guy who plays the main character is more convincing than Jack Black in School Of Rock and I almost felt liking The Rocker a tiny bit more than SOR.
Good songs in that movie, too.

Here's a link to the trailer:

The story goes as follows:
The Rocker tells the story of a failed drummer who is given a second chance at fame. Robert "Fish" Fishman is the extremely dedicated and astoundingly passionate drummer for the eighties hair band Vesuvius, who is living the rock n' roll dream until he is unceremoniously kicked out of the band. Twenty years after his rock star fantasies are destroyed, just when Fish has finally given up all hope, he hears that his nephew's high school rock band A.D.D. is looking for a new drummer. They reluctantly make him the newest member of the band, giving him a chance to reclaim the rock God throne he's always thought he deserved, and taking the young band along for the ride of their lives.

Looks like a funny (in a goofy kind of way) comedy. I'll have to watch it. Some of these are rather enjoyable.

For modern comedies in this vein, be sure to check out Fan Boys.
A group of anxious fans decide to break into Skywalker Ranch and steal an early print of "Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace" for their friend who is suffering from cancer.

I saw this a while ago. It's a little bit me and a little bit the guys I grew up playing with. At times it was a little uncomfortably close to real for me. Still, I really enjoyed the movie. Same for The Story of Anvil movie.

That movie did have its moments, but I had this nagging feeling when watching it that it could have been funnier than it was. And I totally don't buy a woman as hot as Kristen Bell hanging out with a bunch of dorks. :rollover Still, overall pretty funny if one is a Star Wars fan. The bit with the Star Wars fan boys vs. the Star Trek nerds was pretty funny.

Actually the Kristen Bell addition made the movie a bit better for that very reason. I ran a LAN group in WNY for around 5-6 years in highschool/college and did a lot of events with other groups. These are events that are about as geeky as you get. Case mod tournies, CCG(mostly MTG, which I loved) tables, etc on top of the computer gaming. I'd say a good 65% of the time there would be some hot girl or two attached to a group as a tag along friend because they loved the attention. We loved this trend because in the rest of our time as a group we were usually running or weight lifting when we weren't involved in CAL or the WCIII ladders of the day. The wonder of the ugly friend theory. And before you think I'm being too cocky, we also had a few tag-alongs.

The Rocker was also a great surprise of a movie. I loved it and I'll have to watch that again now that I'm reminded of how funny the story was. "We're a British band now!"

I'm halfway through the movie... :munch:
Oooooh, sweaty drummer hugs! :puke:

EDIT:
This was better than I expected. Fun, funny, and worth watching.
