No advice on the lap Pie, but once you find one and I finally find my mandolin, we'll get together and play a little bluegrass!:AOK:

Pie,
Just curious...what led you to these 3 brands as choices for a NEW lap steel?

OK, Ben Harper plays Ashers, and you found an Asian import model at Elderly...you must've seen this Hardway Wings:

Hardway Wings at Elederly

Of the 3 you're homing in on, I like this one, Wings notwithstanding, because of the hog body, string-thru design and the Kent Armstrong with coil split.

I just saw this the other day. It seems pretty interesting. It's not out yet, but I heard that it's going to sell for ~$249.

I had never paid any attention to lap steels--cool stuff. That Power Slide by Peavey looks cool & cheap, thanks Marnold!

Lap Steel

WINGSDAD......as to how and why I picked those three......the ASHER because of their reputation and the other 2 because I stumbled upon their websites and saw something I liked and that maybe I could afford.
Guys on another site rave over the Asher to the exclusion of mostly everything else in it's price range. BUT...these guys aren't as much "pick-up" guys as Fretters are.......Fretters seemed to like the coil splittable pick-up of the Rattler and Wings models.
So, it gives me something to mull over.
Shiner, yeah we could do a little bluegrass.....though my thought at getting a lap steel is for bluesy rock-ish type stuff, like SKYDOGGING.
MARNOLD......dude, thanks for muddying things up for me with the Peavey Powerslide. The sound, PRICE and coil split pickup definitely give me GAS!!
Hmmmmmmm....yeah, the lap steels have tuning pegs and all....but it's be nice to have one each in standard, Open E and Open G!! :poke:
The great thing about lap steels or acoustic squarenecks is that they don't have neck issues, no radius crap to worry about, you don't get worn frets, etc, etc. No muss, no fuss. Just tune her up and put on the pancakes
