I don't know what it is with me but I cannot wrap my head around the turnaround. I've read up on it a lot and I know a couple examples however I still have the hardest time actually working them into songs without getting tripped up or forcing it.

Are there any really good lessons about turnarounds that you guys know of (I'm aware of the Blues You Can Use Book, but haven't purchased it yet). A lot of what I've read applies to the exact theory about turnarounds. The precise recipe to create your own. However at this early stage a lot of this stuff goes right over my head and I can't find any simple explanations. Maybe it just can't be explained simply.

I understand when they should be used, at the beginning of the 11th bar, and all that. The biggest problem I have other than finding a good walk down is finding the correct chords to use to transition back to the I Chord. Also, when I find a turnaround example online they usually have it in only one key. This typically wouldn't matter however when I try to translate it from say E to A, I can't make it work...

I guess what I'm asking is that maybe some of you could give some simple examples of turnarounds that are easy to pull off and will give me at least a good place to start from. That and maybe some lessons or rules you've come across while learning that really simplified things for you.

Sorry I've just been stuck on this for awhile and I really want to nail these down because I know it will really enhance my playing. Thanks again fellas.

Find a shop specialising in music books especially one catering to the jazz musician. They have whole libraries of licks to play over various changes.

Blues Turnarounds

I've got the book for ya right here:

BLUES TURNAROUNDS: A Compendium of Patterns & Phrases For Guitar by
Dave Rubin and Rusty Zinn

Thanks guys, any info is helpful. I'll check out some local music stores this weekend for some books.

What did you think of my turnaround video lesson? Was it helpful?

Sorry I forgot to mention that. I watched it late last night so i didn't actually have time to actually try any of the turnarounds you went over. From what I heard it sounds great and I liked the ones you chose because it seems like a good little variety. Once I get a chance to get through it tonight I'll be sure to ask any questions I come up with, if you don't mind. Thanks.

Robert, I had a chance to go through that lesson last night and it did help. I still have a long way to go however as you all know and I'm beginning to figure out, is that things like this just take time and practice to be able to use without hesitation. Thanks again man.
