Unplugged?

I know the Unplugged thing got a bit overdone in the 90's, but some bands actually shined acoustically. However, others still played electrics and some were already mostly acoustic... Both not venturing very far.

Then there were the stand outs, like Nirvana's MTV Unplugged concert.
One of my favorites to this day is Alice In Chains. Some of their songs actually sound better in the acoustic form than electric, like "Over Now".

What are your stand out unplugged performers/performances?

Obviously, there are bands and music that should never be unplugged.

My acoustic jam group is working up a version of this song. It is a fun one to collaborate with a couple of guitars, a bass and a couple of mandolins. We hope to perform it at an open mic soon.

This dirgelike version of Like a Hurricane is fun too. I listened to the MTV DVD of this show, and the Nirvana one, a lot back in the day.


I thought the Neil Young episode was great. It and the Nirvana one were my favorites, and I also like the Alice episode. Gotta love Alice, from Spanaway, near my hometown of Tacoma, and on the way to my old ski resort I used to go to with my family. Too bad about the needles, etc. and the damage done to that band.

If there was ever any doubt that Stevie was the man, that should clear them up. Amazing.

Unplugged, The media phenomenon that made the sound of piezo pickups the norm. Ugh! Bring back the acoustic guitar.

Clapton had a resurgence in his career i think, bcos of Unplugged. THat's a great album to learn how to play IMHO

I loved the unplugged stuff. Somehow I never saw AIC, even though I really like them. REM, 10,000 Maniacs, Clapton (best thing he'd done in years IMO), of course SRV, Nirvana, I really dig a lot of it.
