John Fullbright - From The Ground Up
This new, young songwriter impresses me with his lyrics and emotional, expressive music. He easily fits in the so called "Americana roots" genre, plays most of the instruments and is credited for 50% of the album's production. It might take a few listens to "get it" but worth checking out if you are into this kind of music.

thanks Tig. Been listening to a Fullbright Playlist this morning. Hard to imagine an acoustic blues tune sung by a skinny white kid being so compelling "All the time in the World". Some full band stuff off of ^^ this album "jericho". Really some good stuff.

Last week R_of_G had me watching and listening to "heartworn highways" and old doc based on the originators of the outlaw country genre. whiskey soaked misery sung with a wink and a grin.

thanks guys. much appreciated.

Me too! Ya baby! I'm really digging it.

I listened to the whole thing. It has a certain "accessibility" to it which you might not necessarily expect from three musicians of their caliber. It bears no resemblance to Dream Theater, for example. It's poppy enough to keep the masses interested, but there's enough virtuosity to keep the guitar/bass/drum geeks happy. I enjoyed it quite a bit. I'm going to have to give it another listen before a final verdict.

I'm a huge Portnoy fan, especially his work with Transatlantic and Neal Morse, and I'm a big Kotzen fan as well. Both those guys can certainly play. I'm not sure why they got Billy in there . They all sing too and that will be a big plus down the road. Obviously Richie has the soulful voice. Anyway, they just got back from touring Japan. I've been following Richie on Facebook and he certainly posts some funny stuff. It's good to see they are having fun.

Like you say, it's accessible right away, but if you listen, man them cats is playing some serious stuff.

Newsted - Heavy Metal Music
Marnold and other heavy metal listeners, this one might be worth checking out. No cookie monster vocals, just solid American metal. More accurately, heavy metal.
Edit: After a few more listens, I'll give it a B-.

Mark Knopfler - Privateering
Plenty of roots based music here, some Celtic, some American. Blues, country, and rock songs as well as fusions of the above. Mark has certainly matured as a song writer since the early days, including the enjoyable Local Hero score.

Jimmy Vivino & the Black Italians - 13 Live
High energy live album with plenty to enjoy by a mix of us here. A mix of original songs and covers of Bob Dylan, James Brown, Traffic and Johnny Winter. Jimmy is not limited to just Conan O'Brien's music director.

Mark Knopfler - Get Lucky
Wow, this 2009 album might be better than Privateering!

Arthur 'Big Boy' Crudup - That's Alright Mama
I love the early, raw blues.

They seem to have largely left metalcore behind and made a straight-forward metal album. Good stuff. It's obviously polarizing for long-time AX7 fans.

I gave it a few listens so far and agree. They sound pretty good on this album. Plenty of blazing solos!

This is a band containing, among others, Doug Aldrich. Actually, if you like Whitesnake's last two albums, you'll like this too. Here's the video from "My Lust Your Fate."

Neko Case - The Worse Things Get The Harder I Fight The Harder I Fight The More I Love You
Similar to Fox Confessor but darker, poignant, and somewhat sad at times.

I think this is a brillant album, very 1970's retro and the top of the icing must be Nile Rogers playing.

Joe Walsh: This is still my favourite album of 2013, great songs and far better than the Eagles.

Yep, the John Mayer album missed more than hit with 2 or 3 good tracks.

Elvis Costello and The Roots - Wise Up Ghost
The Roots lay down some fine grooves here. The songs are definitely Costello's, covering a wide range of styles.

The Aristocrats - Culture Clash
This trio of guys are musician's musicians! Guthrie Govan is beyond description, expertly playing any style you can think of. Incredible performances by all across a multi-genre mix of jazz-prog-rock-rockabilly-blues-fusion-metal. Their first studio album was just OK with me, but this album is pure enjoyment. We get jaw dropping musicianship in some very fun to listen to instrumental songs.

Mississippi Fred McDowell - Mississippi Delta Blues
I've been digging into the early blues and "discovered" Mississippi Fred McDowell, thanks to BB King's Sirius XM channel.

Gov't Mule - Shout!
I'm liking this album much more than some of their past releases. 2 CD's, the first is Warren Haynes' origional songs, and the second CD has the same songs sung by guests like Elvis Costello, Ben Harper, Grace Potter, Dr. John, Glenn Hughes, and a surprising favorite by Steve Winwood.

After watching last nights Americana Music Association's Honors & Awards show, I had to get an album from the duo with a silly name, Milk Carton Kids. They are really talented song writers with a fresh sound, similar to Simon and Garfunkel's harmonies. The lead acoustic guitar playing is quite beautiful and the vocals are clean and twang free for those who dislike the country side of Americana.

Dream Theater - Dream Theater
I like this more than A Dramatic Turn of Events, but not as much as their earlier work.

Crash Kings - Dark of the Daylight
I'm not sure how I'd describe their music, but some of the songs are pretty good.
