Gimme Shelter

Here's a recording I made shortly after receiving my Digitech RP500. I found a pretty good backing track for the song, sans guitars, and recorded a few tracks (layered rhythm + raw lead (panned right)). This isn't an accurate repro of the tune - I just played rhythm that sorta mached that of the tune. The original is in Open G but I played all parts in standard tuning. The lead is just improvised. This was recorded to determine how well the device would sound as a replacement for my Pod. I bought it originally to use in pedalboard mode in front of my amps.

I posted a video of this tune played through just the Laney Cub 12R and it sounded OK but there was no mic'ing or anything, just the cheesy sound as recorded on my iPhone. I think I recorded this either the same day or the next after hooking the RP500 up to the computer. I already had the backer so it was recorded rather briefly.

Any other members sporting an RP500? I'd love to exchange patches with you. :AOK

First and foremost, that was awesome.

Both lead and rhythm tones were perfect for a Stones tune. Your leads were well done, very much in the spirit of the song.

If only you lived in my neighborhood instead of the guys I play with now I'd be able to happily play Stones' songs to my heart's content instead of the stuff I've had to play with them to date.

Oh, and where did you find that backing track? I'd love to have a go at the rhythm part. I've been practicing it in open G for a few weeks.

Sounds pretty cool! That's by far and away my favorite Stones tune. Never grows old. One constructive criticism, at the beginning it seemed that the timing was a little off. I know that technically wasn't your reason for posting. Sounds like the RP500 would work very nicely for recording. I agree with R of G that the tones were very nice for a Stones tune.

R of G, I am hopefully going to have my old and, mostly, original band back together by the fall...all sans the drummer. I am looking forward to playing with real folks again. What's even better is we all enjoy the same music and that makes it all the more enjoyable.

Reminds me of the SNL skit with Mike Myers as Mick Jagger and Mick Jagger as Keith Richards. "It's like a give and go with a goin' beat."

Although I will agree with him on the whole "playing slightly ahead or behind the beat" for effect.
