Excellent, PS! Congrats, she's a beauty, and a NICE price! :bravo:

Congrats! She's darn beautiful and P90 always have that special kind of "magic"!

Cool! I've been to Mass Street Music several times. I used to go there every once in a while when I was in grad school. I went to school in a little town in Kansas called Emporia, which is about an hour SW of Lawrence, where Mass Street music is. Lawrence is the home to Kansas University (KU) for those of you fretters who do not know.

Cool guitar, I'm very jealous. :AOK:

Also known as the alma mater of our lovely daughter who graduated in May and occasionally posts as Baby Girl on the fret (sorry for the ot post Plank, had to brag on my baby girl a little)

Pics and a honeymoon report to come when it arrives. Mass Street is setting it up to my liking before they ship it. Those folks were a pleasure to deal with.

I can't wait to plug this guitar in and see what it can do.............:D

Thanks, guys. This will be my first used Gibson. I just bought a new strap and strap locks for it - they're going on as soon as the guitar walks in the door.

It's scheduled to be here tomorrow.

It has arrived!

I cleaned it up a bit, installed Schaller strap locks, and decided to mount the pickguard. The guitar is great shape - just a couple of small dings, and the gold plate still looks new. The fret board needs a drink, but I'l wait until I play the strings out before I oil it. The pickguard isn't cut for P90's, but I wanted to get an idea of how it would look. If I can find one that is cut for P90's, I'll probablt install it.

The problem is finding a pickguard cut for P90's for less than an arm and a leg. I found a Gibson PG for $48 - more than I want to spend.

Shameless Lester family portrait:

Yum, congrats! I had a chance to get a Gem several years ago locally and probably should've, but my Hamer Special is pretty similar (minus the maple cap and being a doublecut) and I couldn't justify buying even at a good price.

Looks beautiful.

I bet you could find a P-90 cut pickguard at pickguards.com

After a tweak in the action and an afternoon of playing it loud and proud:

It sounds great! More meat and bottom end than the SG Classic, but it still has that signature P90 spank at full snarl. It sounds great clean. The neck pickup just sings on leads; the bridge screams them out nicely.

It feels and plays exactly like my Studio Plus, so there is no "getting adjusted" to it.

Exactly what I was looking for - a no frills P90 equipped LP that screams. :D

Going to be a mainstay at gigs.

Brian,

Pickguards.com didn't list one.

Plank that family pic above is better than a three star gourmet buffet!

Very sweet Plank!

Love that P90 tone.

What's the deal with the Gem series?

Iirc they were made '96-'98. Five different-finished guitars. Each represents the color of a precious or semi-precious gem, ie. Sapphire Blue, Emerald Green, Ruby Red, Amethyst, and Topaz.

To add to Brian's post, they're just basic Studios with P90's finished in "gem" finishes.

After a week with mine, I can't put it down - the guitar sounds amazing.................but I just LOVE that P90 spank and growl.

I put a new pickguard on it this afternoon:

That rocks!

Looks great w/the right-fitting pickguard! (Where'd you find it, btw?)

Even though I have 4 P-90 axes, you are making me wish I coulda swung that Gem a few years back.
