As a Jets' fan whose team benefitted from the "unnecessary roughness" call on Ryan Clark yesterday, I agree with you, that was a completely bogus call on what appeared from all replay angles to be a very hard but perfectly legal hit. I'm not saying I'd decline the 15 yards, but still, a bad call and one that may not have been called against another team.

Cry me a river all of you whining about penalties. :P

The Browns just lost back to back games to 2 win teams.

Once again the Jets won by losing, dropping 38 points to the Bears but still clinching a playoff berth thanks to a loss by the Jaguars.

There's not much to say about yesterday's Jets' performance. As Joe Namath said in a post-game Twitter post "When you give up 38 points, you're supposed to lose."

I will say that the lack of a pass rush becomes more and more evident with each week. Revis had his assignment locked down so tight that even the most risky of risk-takers, Jay Cutler, wouldn't throw it in his direction, and still with all that time, the Jets couldn't muster a pass rush. That's a position that needs some serious addressing come draft time.

The Bucs won again, and while their playoff chances are slim and require some mathematical help from other teams, I'm happy enough they went from 3-13 to at least a 9 win season this year. A lot of "fans" here are down on Coach Morris. I think he's doing a great job with a very young team that seems poised to keep getting better. We have a solid young QB in Freeman, a beast at the running back spot in Blount, and a core of very talented young WRs. A couple more good drafts and this team is on its way to exciting things.

Well, all I can say is that it's fun to play in Florida :)

If only the Lions could play all their road games here, you'd be all set.

I'm not quite so sure about the Bucs; the Seahawks seem to do an excellent job of making every opponent look very good.:thwap

Believe me, I wouldn't base it on a single opponent, however good or bad. I live in Tampa, so I've watched the Bucs' whole season so far. They have a few more years of buillding to do, but there's a good core in place right now at the offensive skill positions.

That's great that they're on the upswing. I used to love watching the Bucs with Warren Sapp. Him and Warick Dunn were very fun to see playing.

I wish the 'hawks had some glimmer of hope somewhere on the team. At this point, I'm not seeing anything positive about them.

Sapp was a favorite of mine. It was always bittersweet for me with Sapp because he should have been drafted that year by the Jets, but they were afraid to bring him to NYC and instead went with Kyle "Hands of Stone" Brady. At least he came to my second team and went on to a great career. I'd like to see the Bucs' defense regain it's former luster. They still need a lot of help on that side of the ball.

I see potential bright spots on the Seahawks despite the inconsistent play. If there's one thing being a Jets' fan has taught me is how to read through inconsistent play.

Step one is for the team to acknowledge that the Hasselbeck era is over. Yes, he produced more results than any Seattle QB since Jim Zorn, but it's over for him as a full-time starter. It's time to either see if Whitehurst is the guy they think he is, or move on via the draft or free agency. A good offensive coordinator should be able to get a viable running game out Lynch and Washington. I was sad to see Leon leave the Jets. He gets a lot of attention as a return guy, but he can be a great alternate running back as well to change pace after pounding a team with Lynch. On the defensive side of the ball, you have a lot of room for upside development from guys like Curry and Earl Thomas. More drafting in this area could help. I hope the team has the patience to stick with Pete Carroll longer than the Jets did. If he doesn't have the team playing more consistent football in another three seasons, then it might not work. You do have the advantage of being in the worst division in the league.

I agree. More than a couple of people around here were annoyed that the Eagles didn't draft Earl Thomas, and while I haven't seen him play, there's reason to hope for a better future.

You did get Nate Allen though, and while I'm biased because he went to USF, he is a solid secondary guy that should work out well for the Eagles. Certainly looks to be a better pick than what the Jets' are getting out of Kyle Wilson who can't make plays as a safety or a corner.

Yeah, Earl has been impressive. The rest of the defense seem to lack any sense of coordination. We do desparately need a new QB even if I have a ton of respect for Hasselbeck. That poor guy's been slammed around too much from working with such a porous O-line.

Umm, are you Eagles fans still alive or is there blood in the streets today?

Was wondering the same thing. Of all people, as a Jets fan I know what the "it's only one loss" thing feels like, but last night did illustrate for me a lot of the stuff Eagles' fans have pointed out about Reid's deficincies as a coach, particularly the inability to make adjustments to the blitzing safeties.

IGGLES fans don't die!! :thumbsup That said....R & G's comments certainly ring true about Reid. They scored that early TD and should have stomped on their throats and put them away. But, the D gave up lots of yds.....then the Vikes caught a break with the fumble TD to tie the game and the whole team got complacent and sat around waiting for another miracle to happen. Well, it didn't and now they have to play the first week of the playoffs.

They were masters of their own destiny and went FLAT. How can that be?

Nothing against the Vikings but I would have bet all I had that the Eagles would have put a big whooping on them last night. The Vikings deserved the win and I can't remember a game when Vick was sacked so much. There are reports he is hurt and was even a bit banged up before the game started but this time of year, every team is banged up a bit.
I was thinking that I didn't want my Saints to have to play the Eagles at their house but now I'm hoping that's the case. Chicago has not been kind to the Saints when playing at their place. I honestly can't see us going more than 1 deep in the playoffs but I was so happy to beat the Falcons in Atlanta! Seems like we may see the Rams and though we just beat them, Bradford is a force to be reckoned with either now or next year.
I had enough fun last year that I can survive staying home this playoff season.

Next week can you Eagles' guys have Vick (or Kolb if Vick gets a week off) throw it to Maclin a bit more?

I need the points for my fantasy league playoff game, which, if I win, I will capture third place overall. Not great, but not bad considering I began the season with a 1-5 record, and turned it around to get the 4th and final playoff seed.

Bradford is developing very quickly. I'll be the first to say I was surprised, not that he was good, but that he was this good this quickly. He never had to read defenses at Oklahoma and I'm impressed he's been able to pick it up as quickly as he has. That said, the Saints should be able to handle the Rams as their defense can't keep pace with the Saints' offense.

I'm really happy with the nice but hard victory of the Saints in Atlanta, not many would have bet on the Saints to be in the play-off once again :rockya :applause

Now other teams that play Atlanta won't have to hear that they were undefeated at home.....no one is invincible but it's ironic because the last team to beat them at their place was the Saints. Life is funny like that.

I still have to believe that no matter who comes out the NFC, the Patriots are the team to win it all. Sure, so much can change between now and then and there's that parity thing too but, they seem to be able to adjust and make changes quickly, not affected by the weather (so it seems) and have that 'been there, done that' mentality.
If I had to guess now, I'd say the Patriots and the Falcons with the Patriots taking it all. But, ask my wife just how often I'm wrong.

I agree with you on the Patriots, having watched several games of the NE team they are as trong as their titles years and Brady is amazing whatever the wheather conditions are. I saw them playing 2 or 3 weeks ago on a snow field but Brady just did it fine as always

I was kind of surprised that the Eagles lost, but it's sort of understandable. Even though this team has overachieved (at least based on preseason predictions), they're very much a team subject to momentum and mood swings -- probably goes with the youth of the team. In other words, they'll win some huge games and then ease off while coasting, which results in a loss the next week. Both the Chicago and Minnesota games are examples of that.

The odd part to me is that sometimes it seems like the coaches are part of that big exhale too, and this is a veteran group of coaches where you wouldn't think that would be the case.

Too bad they lost the bye this week, but it might serve them well to get hungry at this point from a loss, since as mentioned above that seems to be the character of this team.

In other news, I was happy that the Saints beat the Falcons. I don't mind the Falcons, but it seems like the hype machine is out of control for them, and the Saints are a team that's easy to like -- or at least right now they still are.

If you read the posts on some of the Atlanta sports blogs, you wouldn't see many people liking the Saints. They trash both sides are talking is a shame as it's only a game. To bring Katrina into the discussion and say some nasty things is a shame. However, we do have some Saints fans that I wouldn't admit to being friends with but all rivalries have this. Oooh, the Bears and Packers have their moments and that should be a great game to watch.

Well, I just meant the players themselves, mainly no-names like Pierre Thomas and good-guys like Brees. They can occasionally get goonish like when they tried to murder Favre last year, but the Saints still have this very underdog-ish vibe about them that's kind of the opposite of the Patriots or (switching sports) the Lakers.

Until that changes, they're still a likable team IMO.

Well, that was unexpected! Granted, the Vikes are a shadow of their former selves, but a four-game winning streak is a four-game winning streak. Especially when you win two total games in the previous two seasons. Combined. First four-gamer since 1999. They beat the Packers too which makes my life in WI that much easier.

Just need to get some extra-strength duct tape for Stafford's shoulders. Amazingly, there should be no coaching staff changes unless someone is looking at Linehan. I thought he did an excellent job as OC, adjusting the playbook to the strengths of the three QBs. Unlike a certain Michigan coach who wants to bash a square peg in a round hole.

Their draft pick will be high enough to get quality but not SO high that it'll cost a fortune.

Crazy stat: if they had beaten the Vikes by 15 or more, they would have become the first team in NFL history to have a losing season but outscore their opponents.

Yeah, it seems like it was a year of progress for the Lions. I'd be concerned about Stafford if I was a Lions fan, but there are reasons to be optimistic. I haven't looked it up, but what's up with Maurice Morris being the running back? Is Jahvid Best injured?

In other news, I saw that Mangenius was canned. What's the word on that, Browns fans? Bad? Good? Weren't there mumbles that he needs more time to put his plan in place, at least earlier in the season?

Best got turf toe in both big toes toward the beginning of the season. He's looked a lot better catching passes than rushing. If you get him in open space, he's deadly. I would assume part of that problem at least is the turf toe issue. Morris played pretty well for them.

Marnold, I saw a lot of encouraging signs for the Lions, particularly the way they finished the season. If, and it looks to be a big if, but if they can keep Stafford healthy and continue to improve that defense, they are on the upswing for sure. I don't think they're all that far behind GB or Chicago as far as talent on the offensive side of the ball. Certainly neither of those teams have a receiver like Johnson.

Jets begin playoff run in Indianapolis. No game against Peyton Manning is ever easy, but the Colts are not what they were in previous years so we'll see. My expectations are low but hopeful.

Also, congratulations to the Seattle Seahawks for officially being the crappiest team in NFL history to make the playoffs. I can't wait for the NFL to force an 18 game season on the players' union so we can have a division winner with a 7-11 or 8-10 record host a playoff game.

Yep, some seriously big ifs there. As a Lions fan, I'm used to that. I just saw this stat: over the past four games Detroit is 4-0. Over the 45 games before that they were 4-41. Yes, you read that correctly.
