i actually had to go back to the W for this one, and go about 80 pages back to find the actual date. it was mid oct, 86.

shiner had been playing for about six months again [he played in college] and he'd convinced me to noodle around at night on his D10s, taught me gary jules' strange world... et al. easy chords. i goofed around on his guitar while he was teaching night classes. i started posting on the W.

and it was a day, much like today, when court stunk on ice, i came home WAY late, after normal business hours, tired and cranky, and there was this huge box leaning up against the pool table, with a return address from our friend who has a guitar shop in philly.

i had Autumn, my Augusta. she was my first filly, and i love her to this day.

my whole 'tude changed from the crudiness of my day, and i was grinning from ear to ear.

Quite funny but at my time it was not yet popular to smash your first guitar onto the walls I had hard time to convince my parents to buy me one so I wouldn't had the idea of imitating Pete T :rotflmao:

my first one which my grandmother bought me I was 7 and my aunt paid for classical lessons for 2 years.....is still in a box under my bed. Not worth anything, but a lot of painful memories LMAO I hated classical...and it was 1975 I wanted to be Ace Frehley not Amadeus

My first guitar was this one that I made while in highschool.

The guitar player in our band (Shadowfax) back in highschool had an original 1958 or somewhere around there Les Paul Jr. He let me and my dad copy the dimensions off of it. I played drums at the time and never really caught on to the guitar until a couple years ago. I built a couple guitars over the years and learned a few chords but never was into it like I am now. What was neat about the guitar was that my dad had saved a beautiful mahogany bar top from Sharky's Bar in the upper peninsula of Michigan where he grew up and that is what I used for the guitar. Dad said the wood may have been close to 100 years old when he got it and he just passed away last month at 92. We built that guitar back in 1971/72. About 10 years later I cut the neck out of that guitar and used another chunk of Sharky's bar top to build this guitar.

I added the maple laminations to the neck with a new fretboard and truss rod. It had Dimarzio Dual Sound pickups, BadAss bridge and Grover tuning keys.

The thing that was different about these guitars is that my dad soaked the wood for the neck in water for about a month. He then made up a jig with the correct angle for the headstock and clamped it into this jig and let it dry for about a month. I had to sell that guitar because of back issues from work and when I sold it the neck was just like it was back in 1971 when we clamped it in that jig. I have not seen the guitar since I sold it back around 1993 or so but I am still looking for it, I hope to get it back someday.
Sorry for the long post I am still thinking of all the projects I did with my dad, I really miss him.

I couldn't see a truss rod when I was measuring out my friends guitar I was going by a book and I don't remember what one it was now, but somehow missed that truss rod. Shoot 18 years old, girls, guitars, motorcycles, cars....................Oh man I am surprised I got anything done

Gee, the only thing I can say is that my parents bought me mine from a pawn shop. I can't claim anything to do with it's construction or even the purchase, because they surprised me with it. I feel almost cheated. :whatever:

My first guitar was a metallic green Fender Coronado II with a Princeton Reverb amp. Stupid me got rid of it about 25 years ago. I'd love to find that guitar, because ugly as it was, it looked and played pretty cool. That Princeton also had a mighty sweet tone too. But, hindsight is 20/20. :thwap:

Great story M29! "Shadowfax", huh? I was a huge Tolkien fan back then (still am). Did you guys play prog kind of stuff? You guys know about my first (the acoustic was first and then the Strat).

first guitar was acoustic and a Kay.actually found it w/four strings on it.the folks said if I could learn three songs on the four string guitar they'd buy me an electric.fast forward: learned a half dozen on that guitar without an E or B string..first electric was a 60's Teisco one pup single cutaway

I still have both my first acoustic and my first electric, though the latter of those has not been playable for decades. The acoustic is a no-name MIJ my dad bought in Japan while on a Navy tour of duty during 'Nam. It's the six-string below left:

It plays OK but the tone is pretty tinny. I replaced one of the tuners I somehow bashed off or broke. It's currently on a stand in the living room at Casa Krashpad.

My first electric was an especially craptastic Sears-type no-name I got as a present in high school during the mid-'70's. By the early '80's I had painted it checkerboard and it was used solely as a decorative wall ornament in my law school-era house (lovingly known as "The Pit"). Here's a photo of the porch at The Pit with the checkerboard monster behind me on the right:

I lost track of the guitar for decades after I moved out of The Pit c. 1984. It turned out that my housemate/bandmate saved it all these years. He returned it to me at a reunion gig last year. It's now being used for decorative purposes again, out en El Garaje at Casa Krashpad (see upper right corner):

Haha, thanks! The helmet is technically my son's. Am in the midst of a garage cleanup so I'll have room to fit all the stuff I'm bringing home from the office that I've been in 20+ years at work, and so that the garage can be used for band practices. Found the helmet whilst cleaning up, am claiming all the cool toys.
