Yes I realize that now. Back then it was just a 12 year old guitar. Now it is 40 years old and what a difference originality makes. I was really surprised by the case's increase in collectibility. When I bought it, the case was new old stock, and the guy couldn't sell it. All I needed was a case to store my guitar at home and 40 bucks was good. The case the guitar came with was one of those old brown aligator look cases and it had the band name stencilled on in yellow paint. It was more like a cardboard box and wasn't the original. Now those "Protector cases" are highly sought after for Vintage LPs and SGs. Heck I have a 40 year old Fender strap that I have had in that case for all those years. It is one of those pencil thin leather straps with the thin leather shoulder pad. My buddy gave it to me back in 68. It came With the Jazz Bass. The only thing I don't have is the orginal slot head screw to hold the whammy bar in place. But I have a phillips head, in the correct 10/32 thread.

I think I lucked out getting a solid 1 peice body as I have seen others with obvious glue joints. It an 04 and plays like a dream. I had to set it up of course as the factory set up had lousy intonation and action.

That Epi looks great! I'd bet it's a well-matched body of more than one piece though. Even Gibsons (non-Custom Shops) have multi-piece bodies nowadays.

Either way congrats on a beautiful guitar.

Biggreen,

That is a very nice SG. Is it the lighting or is that a darker color (I have the red SG)

I'm not sure, but this series only came in 2 colors, red and black. I think they only made them between 03 and 05 or something.

I've looked up and down on it and I can't see a seam. I know there is nothing wrong with glue joints, I'm just glad I found one without anything obvious.

:) Anyway, thanks for the compliments on it guys, how come I post the pics it just shows links?

I've posted this elsewhere but here's my entry to the SG brotherhood.

I've just got an 07 Sg faded special upgraded with SD Pearly Gates and Alnico Pro II pups. A TKL hardcase was included. I found it on graigslist for $600.

Here it is next to my cherished BD guitar. My BD is a beast of its own. :)

Just picked up my new SG last weekend - I tried a Les too but it did nothing for me at all...

Beauty!

But, of the 2, I'd pick an LP (and I've owned 2 SG-style guitars) every time.

The overall feel felt better (to me anyway). I havent been able to put it down since getting it, I still cant get over the weight - I always thought they were heavy guitars until last week.

Odd, I've always thought of SG's as light, which is why I prefer LP's. Though I prefer doublecut LP's to singlecut, and DC's obviously aren't as heavy as singlecuts.

Makes me curious, how much does the gibson les paul weigh?

I have an agile 3000 lp that's damn close to ten pounds. After 3 years of it I've had it. :(

Absolutley no idea? I checked their site and it gave all information except the weight.

I think they generally range from 8.5 to 10 pounds, depending on wood batch, "weight relief"/chambering, flat-top vs. archtop, and singlecut vs. doublecut.

But that's just a guess, I've never weighed any of the 3 Gibson LP's (or for that matter, any LP-type guitars) I've owned. One person has reported ranges from 7.5 to 11 pounds (with ~9 pounds being average):

Hmm, I've just found this:

The average LP Standard weights at around 9,0lbs but you can find some lighter ones if you´re lucky (mine weights 7,5lbs) and there are some hefty 10 pounders around if you´re in for a workout. (Some 80´s LP´s can even be found at shoulder busting 11lbs!!!)

Historic models are non-weight relieved but Gibson selects the lightest woods for them. Standards have 7-9 weight relieve holes carved under the top (like a Swiss cheese)

I beat ya to it-- see my post directly above yours. ;)

Regarding weight relief, it depends on the age of the LP. I am not sure when weight-relief began (Gibson didn't tell the public about it), but don't think it existed in the 70's and probably most if not all of the 80's (though I'm guessing). Moreover, Gibson recently (within the last year or so) stopped Swiss-cheesing guitar bodies and now chambers them instead. The idea is to produce a guitar with sound chambers that actually enhance the tone rather than merely relieve weight. That's also how the old Guild Bluesbirds were built.

those Dillions definitely look good. Mahogany body, bound neck and nice headstock and a P-90 option for 300,00$. Seems like a a better deal than an Epi.

check out my pics for my sg pic. Its the sg faded, but what is truly unique about my sg is that the serial number shows that it was built in november of 2003. I started to learn how to play within 5 days of it being built. I just bought this guitar about a month ago and I've never owned an upper scale guitar before this one so i'm sort of freaked about it.

Pretty dark where you are hey ;)

Cool though. Gotta love the SG's. I wouldn't mind acquiring one at some point.

Flipping through the TV channels last night I came across a music video by a band where both guitarist used SGs & the bass player plaed an SG bass.

I was surprised that the drummer wasn't playing an SG kit.

I think the band's name was Pinhead.
