Very sad to read the news that Paul Motian, one of the world's greatest jazz drummers, passed away today. I became familiar with Motian from his work with Bill Evans and later with Bill Frisell.

This news pretty much solidifies my playlist for the rest of today.

Never would have believed Zorn would put out a Christmas album to begin with, but when he announced he was, I was glad he picked this band to do it. The Dreamers are essentially the John Zorn All Stars. Getting Mike Patton to do the vocals on this one finishes it off perfectly. I'm not particularly a fan of Christmas music but even I think this is awesome.

I haven't heard this album yet but I've read reviews of it both ways. It's on my list to check out. I like some of her other work so it's worth a listen. Thanks!

The Black Keys - Rubber Factory
I never got into them but decided to give 'em a chance. While not my idea of the best ever, they do sound pretty good.
Now I know where Moreland & Arbuckle get some of their sound from (combined with Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit).

FWIW, Rubber Factory is my favorite album of theirs. It's part of the reason their expansion to a four-piece for touring bothers me so much. Rubber Factory shows just what these guys can do as a duo.

They're releasing their third album in March. Still in love with this one from last year.

FLAMING ROW is a newly formed international project band that call Germany their home base, well some of the members anyway…. See, this project includes around forty different artists from around the globe all contributing in one way or another, similar to something you would see done in the AYREON project release or something like that. Spearheading this project is Martin Schella, who some of you might now from his role in STEEL PROTECTOR or maybe even CAST IN SILENCE but he is joined here with a massive cast of people, some who are largely unknowns and a few surprisingly high profile guests too, like Gary Wehrkamp and Brendt Allman both from SHADOW GALLERY, Billy Sherwood from YES and SPOCK’S BEARD occasional member Jimmy Keegan.
