Cost. I'm looking at what we've actually paid. Otherwise I'd have to do estimates on probably half my guitars that I got great deals on and could sell for considerably more.

did you keep track of these over the years? I've only been playing for about three years (not much to show for it talent wise) and I don't think I could list the items that I've had, only the items that I can see over my right shoulder.

Well Strum, you did have that revolving door policy going there for a while. ;)

My list is over about the same time period as yours, and it was surprising to me how hard I had to think. I had to refer to my sig line pretty much.

I only started actually keeping a list in my current main band, Crash Pad, for the webpage, and even then only for the last 5 to 8 years actually started including prices paid in a list off-site. I also started recording serial numbers, for the guitars at least. Really should do the amps as well.

But I learned a long time ago that if I don't write stuff down it all tends to run together. That's also why I tend to take photos at shows. I keep a list, also on the Crash Pad page, of every (sfaik) Crash Pad gig, the date, venue, and band line-up. Crash Pad doesn't play as often as say a cover band does, but according to my records our most recent show was number 117, and to date there have been 20 people who have appeared onstage as Crashers, though a couple were only short-time or one-off fill-ins.

I figure eventually the grandkids will never believe that old man Krashpad was in a rock and roll band, so I better have some decent proof. Even so, I don't bother doing that with my side bands. I'm sure that between my other bands that I haven't documented and 10+ years of church playing, and playing at Young Life in high school, I have to have at least a good 500 or 600 performances, though that's just a guess.

That's dwarfed by someone doing covers every weekend for any appreciable length of time, but I'm still kinda proud of it nevertheless.

I'm impressed. I always enjoy seeing what you've dug up.

BTW, do you still have the Wildkat? I have someone interested in mine, but hesitant to let it go.

    My question is - where do you PUT all this stuff!!!

If my memory serves, his guitars are just sprawled all over his front lawn.

I, on the other hand have a perfectly orderly storage system including (weather permitting) the Rockmobile (my van), Casa Krashpad (various locations around my house), and most importantly, my office:

Yeah, still have the Wildkat. Have been playing so seldom of late I still haven't gigged it, either in one of the rock bands or at church. Need to fire it up at church at end of May. Have played it at a couple of Crash Pad practices though.

Krash, no way I am going to list up everything here....did that recently for the sales I did. Taking into consideration all stuff I currently own, it mus be something around 7K€ = 9.3KUSD. But I got the stuff spreaded everywhere. rehearsing rooms, at friend's houses etc.

If it was to me and if I wasn't such a lazy bone, I'd sell everything and only have one good amph, one good Strat, one good Paul, 3 good pedals.

I can see why you keep a list, with them spread around like that!

No! You didn't sell my baby!!!???

Yep, your baby is gone. I sold it to the 17 year old kid that I mentioned in an earlier thread.

I liked it, but it didn't get much play. The Dot still controls the biggest percentage of my time. However, it may be down for a short time as I am planning on installing 59's, new pots and a switch.

I really enjoy mine, although I do kick around the idea of installing humbuckers. I am one of those people that prefer the humbucker over other pick ups. I would consider trading it for an Alleykat or Riviera.

you have a daisy rock? isnt that a company that makes guitars for chicks?

Yeah, they used to be connected with Schecter, apparently the Schecter president's wife thought up the idea.

Basically, the necks are a little narrower than most, and some come in girly colors. As for the necks, they're no smaller than the one on my Rickenbacker 620. Unless you have giant hands or really hate smallish necks, they won't be a problem.

They're surprisingly good budget guitars. Here are the two I have:

HPIM1033_00.jpg

The stock mini's in the pink 6-string rock, they're hot and with a lot of bite, but not harsh. The white 12-string has a pair of Brownsville single-coil toasters in it, only because the seller modded it like that. I happened to already have had a Brownsville with the same toasters in it, and they're very cool (but very different than the mini's).

They were both very affordable. I've got way too many guitars so I'm selling the 6-string pink one for $150 (I got it new on closeout). I'm the original owner, it's been gigged once and kept in my smoke-free office and home.

i like the inlay on the pink one...

the white one is quite nice looking actually, if it didnt have 'daisy rock' on it it would be great. i dont want a guitar with 'daisy' written on it :rotflmao:

Wot?

It's writing on a headstock dude. :thwap:

If you were that concerned, a little strip of black electrical tape would "fix" the problem pretty easily.

I took the white one to church for practice today, but none of the songs called for a twelve. Played my Dano Hodad with a Bigsby for two of the songs, and my Epi Thunderbird bass for the third. You can't play the name on a headstock.

+1
People used to shy away from vintage Kay, Danelectro, Harmony, and Silvertone for the same reason... now they pull top dollar from collectors.

Like I wrote in the "decent tele copy" thread, there is a certain panache in rocking out on stage with a guitar at which some turn up their noses. Rawkin in their faces with a Daisy Rock sounds good to me.

Was surfing around various threads looking for some info and happened on this one. I don't necessarily want to wake the dead (threads), but I wanted to say I agree with this 100%.

Build quality and tone are important, but I like to challenge myself to figure out what I really value and how those things measure up by stripping away all of the image stuff.

Well, let's see:

Harmony Sovereign (factory 2nd)-$75.00
Taylor 310- $950.00
Takamine a/e 12-string (no model no.) - $325.00
Epiphone Collegiate Special - $5.00 (cost of the raffle ticket)
Charvel/Jackson CSM-1G-$247.00
Squier 51 - $235.00
DeArmond M75 - 345.00
DeArmond Starfire Special - $375.00
Michael Kelly Patriot Custom - $400.00

Fender Sidekick Chorus 20 - $200.00
Peavey Classic 20 - $300.00
Earth Sound Research G-2000 - $200.00
Avatar G212H cab - 350.00
Peavey Express 112 - 69.00

Digitech EX7 - $70.00
Digitech RP250 - $80.00

For a grand total of $4226.00.

I'll jump in late...

Currently, about $2400 US total.
$700 in amps.
$1100 in guitars, all electric.
$500 in pedals.
$100 in cables.

Fairly modest, yet plenty of tonal range.

Uh, I dunno, it'd be quite impossible to add up everything I have had.

I've owned roughly two dozen guitars, perhaps a few less amps in number.
I've also owned pretty much 100% three PA systems, half a dozen mixers and whatnot, and something like three dozen pedals of various sorts. And innumerable gadgets like multiFX units or guitar multiFX systems, rack gear, mics speaker cabs, whatever.

But there is no way I could count what I've spent on them. Way too much. If I had every piece of gear I ever owned, it'd probably fit in a mid-size U-Haul truck or 3 Chevyvans.

Right now I've managed to get down to 3 electrics, two acoustic, a bass and two amplifiers, a pedal assortment, a dozen microphones with some pretty good condensers (enough to record a band well), and a Zoom portable 8-tracker plus a win7 DAW with external 8-track rack card, some assorted other gear from semi-complete drumset to some old stage lights and cases and whatnot.

My problem is mostly I like to keep exchanging gear and I sometimes make horrible deals when I want something...but no matter, it's just gear and paper.

The way I keep tabs on my music gear spending is whenever I get something new I HAVE to get the dough for it either by selling something off OR paying for it with money from some extra income like translation jobs etc.

But I've promised myself not a cent of my main income will ever go towards my music hobby. That's all reserved for home improvement & the family.

Here's a few of my amps...traded in most of 'em already though...

Last night I played a show with an inexpensive Gretsch Special Jet (one of their less-expensive "Electromatic" line) for the first set, and a Squier "Vintage Modified" Thinline Telecaster for the second set. Both are dead stock except that the Gretsch had the bridge pickup flipped around (so that the pole pieces are nearer the neck) and had an intonatable wrap bridge installed, both mods having been done by the previous owner. Oh, and the tophat fell off the Thinline, and since I couldn't find another tophat or even a Strat switchtip that fit, I just jammed an LP-style switchtip on the blade switch. Crude but effective-- that baby ain't goin' nowhere.

And you know what?

I didn't play any worse than my previous show with the same band where I played my Les Paul Classic (with a rather expensive Seymour Duncan Custom 5 in the bridge), with my Fender '52 RI Telecaster in reserve. Maybe better. And people were equally positive to the sets where I was playing cheapies versus expensives.

Honestly, people don't give two flying fecks about what model and brand guitar and amp we're playing. Speaking of amps, with that band I play a Super Champ XD that I picked up in a pawn for $175.

As guitarists, we tend to overthink this kind of mierda.

If it sounds good, it is good.

I wish I could say something super-insightful in response to this, but all I can do is agree. There is some point in owning nice stuff, particularly if it makes you want to play more, but more often than not the equipment you're using is less important than we want to think it is.

I sat down and figured this out a few years ago... or tried to... I think I've mentally blocked out how much I've spent because it's simply too traumatic.

Between the Marshall and Les Paul, that in itself is about $5k... I have estimated everything over the years (including PA stuff, stomp boxes, etc.) to be in excess of $15k.
