In using my Thesis 96 pedal (aka a DVM Overdrive 2) I've noticed that the pedal adds a good amount of compression. I know that this is a natural side-effect of clipping of all kinds and especially in the high-gain territory I know and love so well. I read the information on the Overdrive 2 on BYOC's site and came across this:
Mind you, I like the effect so I'm not complaining. I just wondered how they accomplished that sans tubes.
What exactly did they change to add the compression and sag? This pedal does seem to compress more than my Behringer TO-800 did. It was particularly noticeable when recording in Audacity because I could see it as well as hear it.And we've come up with a new mod that increases the overall output and distortion of the tube screamer circuit and adds some compression and sag like you'd get from a real tube rectifier making the pedal even more tube like.
