Trying to Trace Musical Influence

I was attempting to find a website that documented the influence that old blues artists had on music that emerged in the 50's and 60's. I'm still looking, but I did come across this page that might interest some.

I have yet to read any of the bios on that page, but I sincerely hope the research they put into the bios are a little more thorough than they job they do spell-checking the names of the bands themselves...

Bob Marley & the Whalers - The Whalers? They did not name themselves after whale hunters. The name is Wailers.

That's the only one I noticed right away, but it doesn't exactly instill in me much hope that the writers of the bios worked all that hard.

EDIT: Ok, now I've read several of the entries for some of the bands/artists about whom I know a pretty good deal. The writing is, at best, mediocre as far as style goes, and terrible as far as quality of information. You could easily find much more thorough and well-written information on any of those artists on their individual wikipedia pages.

Strum have you ever read The Definitive Illustrated Encyclopedia of ROCK??
You can find a lot of informative readings on many artist and groups but some are left out. It's really hard to get all the goods facts throwed into one book when it comes to music.

What I was looking for was some sort of site where someone may have compiled a list of artist's influences, but I really haven't found anything that meets the one stop shop type of format on the web. I'm not interested in purchasing a book.

My expereince is that is a bit impossible to find. What I've seen when it comes to wikipedia is some bad information.

I was just posting the first one for people to read, next time I will proof read it

I was watching a show the other day and there were members of various somewhat current bands and they were saying their influences were groups like Kiss, Black Sabbath, U2, Clash....

While watching it I started wondering if they had any idea of who their real influences were? Did they recognize or have the knowledge of just how far back the influence really went. It would be cool to find a family tree type of format of the influence going back to early records and even further.
