Why Crocs?

Don't be too quick to judge the ugly crocks. I was a late convert, and admit they look like hell. But I have aging athlete feet (think basketball on tile in Keds) and I honestly find they have some value with reducing discomfort, particularly after a long day and lots of walking in dress shoes. I hate to admit it, but I've taken to doing the early morning dog walk in crocs and socks.
Yep, they're ugly, but GQ ain't knockin at my door. And they feel good, so what the heck.

I completely agree. I have my feet in hard ski boots, and in stiff cycling shoes, and in dress shoes much of the time. I defy my wife's friends who tease my because I wear my pearl izumi socks with my crocs sometimes, but otherwise, my heels tend to dry out and split, and it is darn comfortable. Function over fashion, I say. I will not be dictated to by some nefarious fashion police, enforcing rules set by advertising execs and magazine publishers. Also, I am a married, 40 something Dad. I try to look decent, but who am I really trying to impress?

My wife and kids love them but I just can't get around what they look like just hand me my hippie sandals and I'm good to go

I have Birkenstocks too, which qualify as hippy sandals I believe. The leather and cork is more upkeep though, and I don't thrash those on the beach like I do these.

Spud, Mrs. SVL wears some of those fuzzy crocs around the house during our cold winters and cool evenings. The height of comfort for her. :AOK:

Comfort takes precedence over appearance every time with me. My crocs are the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned.

Also, I live in Florida where it's always too hot for shoes but I am not about to go around unshod (too many nasty things to step on) but this is the next best thing. Easy on, easy off.

Plus, like Steve mentioned, at 38 and married and a father, who do I have to impress anyway? My wife likes them, she's the one who bought them for me.

Oh, look, Crocs...:puke: Whoa! What was that....

I played lots of basketball when I was younger too, only in Converse until Nike started making some better shoes. Feet are ok, it's the knees that are constant reminders of all those hours on the courts years ago.

Still....if I need a comfortable pair of shoes, I'll grab my running shoes, my Rockports, or the nice Lands End chucka boots I have. And I won't have to go around looking like a refugee from an acid party fashion show...

Thankfully I believe that the Crocs 15 minutes is just about up. They will be remembered as fondly as day-glo and "Choose Life" T-shirts from the 80s. And mullets. And the Soviet Union.

Here are some Crocks photos from of all places - the Denver International Airport. (I didn't have anything better to do while I waited for my plane).

Go figure they would have this huge Crocks store...at the airport.

Crocks for all occasions. Look at the price on the tiny kids Crocks. Yikes!

Makes sense. Their HQ is right up the road in Boulder, CO. Hit up all the transient people in the airport.

We just hired an engineer with a mullet, so there might be a minute or two to go on that one.
Well, there are more than a few of them up here too. The astonishing thing to me (although by now it shouldn't astonish me) is how many she-mullets there are around here. If there's something more entertaining from an unintentional comedy standpoint than a she-mullet, I'd like to know what it is.

But Strum, we live in the midwest.....where we still cling to our guns and religion and mullets :poke:

I still see plenty of them, but then again, I live in Florida. And Marnold, there are plenty of she-mullets (or as I call them mullettes) down here, and I agree with you, they are the height of hilarity.

In the lesbian community they are referred to as "short-longs." It is a long story how I know this. ;)

Well, we could discuss who we have seen wearing crocs and a mullet. ;) :thwap:
Wouldn't it be easier to say those we haven't seen with crocs and a mullet?

LOL!! I guess we have fewer mullets in this particular section of idaho. I used to see plenty in Tacoma though, mullets and mulletes! My son's soccer coach, an expatriate from NZ, sporting long grey dreadlocks held back in a horsetail and crocs, and a FC Liverpool tattoo, and full uniform resplendent with the Carlsberg logo is an enjoyable sight though. Richard is a great guy. :D

imho they look a little off, but i could understand why youd like them R of G, cuz trainers in Tampa just seems too uncomfortable.

some of those in the pictures above look alright though.

It was the early 70's. I remember I gave a pair to my Dad and he would walk around the house like he was falling backwards. I was surprised to find them and even more surprised at the price.
