I think that all of the losing teams this weekend were teams that I either liked or found interesting, so it's kind of a bummer in that way for me. In fact, it's sometimes hard for me to pick who I think will win versus who I want to win. I think Jets/Colts was an example of that for me.

My primary remaining goal for the playoffs is to see certain teams lose. No offense, R of G, but I'd like to see the Jets lose just so that Rex Ryan will shut his big, fat, stupid mouth. That dude is so obnoxious it makes me wish failure for everything he ever does. I wish I could like the Jets, but his presence and media-whoring really makes it challenging.

No offense taken. I'm just a fan. Half the time I wish Rex would shut up too and spend his time learning how not to mismanage the clock in the last two minutes of a half. That said, his schtick does seem to go over well with most of the players and if that motivates them, I'll take it.

Of course, New England's coach may seem a paragon of professionalism when contrasted with the public persona Rex dons, but Jets fans know the real Bellichick was pretty classless in the way he accepted and then immediately resigned as head coach of the Jets. I'll never argue against his abilities as a coach as clearly he knows what he's doing.

If Pats - Jets is on your radar.....
Good critique of the matchup, I think this is gonna be a game

http://www.patspulpit.com/2011/1/12/1930259/playoffs-jets-vs-patriots-who-has-the-edge-defense

I'd say it's a fair and accurate assesment. Revis really is the difference-maker in the secondary. Cromartie is overrated, as likely to give up a big play as he is to make one. The safeties are shaky. Pool has been playing well, but since Leonhard went down for the season (the week leading into the last matchup with the Patriots), some major weaknesses have been exposed at that position. Getting rid of Kerry Rhodes was not a smart move.

Expect the Jets defensive scheme to be different this week against Brady than it was last week with Manning. Last week was all about coverage, this one is about the pass rush.

I wish Cleveland fans were as cool as Seattle fans.

Despite being a Pittsburgher, I gotta hand it to Browns fans. They keep on showing up despite the team's performances. I think with some success the 'Dawg Pound' could be elevated to '12th Man' level fandom!

Still though - the only sign of life in Cleveland? Pittsburgh: 186 Miles. :poke

As a lifelong fan of the Jets and a Bucs fan since I moved here in 1992, I can appreciate the dedication of Cleveland fans to the Browns. Hopefully having Holmgren running the show will bring you some much needed stability and consistency which will result in a better performance on the field.

Looks like all the analysts and talking heads that said Boldin and Houshmanzadeh would be the difference-makers for the Ravens this year were correct.

One dropped a touchdown pass in the end zone while the other dropped the pass which ended the Ravens' season.

Is that not the difference the experts meant? :poke

I'm not necessarily rooting for the Bears today, but I do think a Green Bay/Chicago NFC championsip game would be awesome. For all the hype about the Baltimore/Pittsburgh rivalry, Packers/Bears is so much more.

I wish it would just be 4:30 already so we can get on with the Jets/Patriots game. All the talk this week has reached ridiculous proportions to the point where the analysts are no longer even talking about game plans or strategies, they're just talking about the talking. It's time to just play the damn game already. Whoever wins can talk after it's over.

Well, they came out ok, but the receivers dropped some sweet passes, and a couple interception opps were dropped. That and the Bears are controlling the line when they are on offense at this point.

Unless the Seahawks start getting some better hands and other fundamentals, this game will be no fun. If they do, who knows what opportunities may yet come. And at least they will be playing as they can.

I guess last week was a fluke cuz the Seahawks can't get anything accomplished. I know there's lots of time left but if the Bears get 1 more TD before half, I'm going to say it's over.
I didn't hear that they expected so much snow until later in the day. I guess their weathermen are as bad as ours.

The first half is going exactly as I expected it would. Like I said after last week's game, the Bears' defense is significantly different and better than that of the Saints and would present all kinds of problems for Seattle.

I'm not saying the game is over, but I don't know how to finish that sentence.

Well, they (Seahawks) finished better than they started and kept their heads up til the end. If the receivers had caught some of those at least 4 dropped passes (good passes BTW), and/or the defense caught the at least 2 interceptions that hit them basically in the hands or numbers early, the game could have been a win. Couple of tough injuries too.

I believe the Bears dealt with the early field conditions better. Not surprising, as it is their field. And they therefore also controlled the line. The 'Hawks could not find any leverage up front. And our receivers fell down and or stumbled several times.

So I do not believe that last week was a fluke. Had the 'Hawks done a couple things differently (mainly just execute on a few things), the result could well have been different, despite Chicago's overall control of possession.

I am glad they finished well. Now, I am rooting for the Jets. I want to see them win this thing overall. Tired of the Patriots. I'll root for the Packers over the Bears, but of all the teams remaining, I hope the Jets take it.

Agreed that the Seahawks showed up. Hasselbeck did all he could, maybe the cold affected the mild weather Seahawks receivers.

I can't tell you how insane this town (Chicago) is about Bears/Packers. That's as good as a rivalry gets for the NFL. Glad I get a front row seat. Packers look scary good right now. Imagine that team with all their starters.

I'm a lifelong Patriots fan, suffered through years of misery and mediocrity, so I'm lovin' what I'm seeing. Hard to argue with the decade long dominance of Belichik/Brady union. Many are saying move over Montana, it's a great thing to watch. Was I tired of the 49ers then, yeah. So I get it.

I think the benching of Welker was a classy move by Belichick. Discipline and consistancy are the most celebrated attributes in New England. I think it's not acted on enough in pro sports.

Having said ALL that. I think this game is gonna go 60 minutes. Fun stuff.

Except he didn't really bench him as Welker got the first punt return. Ok, he missed the first series after that, but still. I guess class is just not something I associate with Bellichick. A great coach. Maybe the greatest coach, but far from a class act.

Well, i did say "classy move" by the guy, regardless of the guys overall character. I don't see him as perfect by any stretch. Contrast the statement it makes for pretty benign comments, relative to what Cromartie threw out there and Ryan's public support that kind of thing.

I agree the focus on the trash talk takes away from what the Jets have done over the last few years, and what has emerged as a great rivalry. Let the scoreboard tell the story.

Man, the officials need to get it together. missed field goal ,and missed a spot by more than a yard.

Congrats to the Jets. Ellis and Smith, and Revis and ..gulp...Cromartie deserve a game ball. LT looks pretty happy. Holmes insane catch. Sanchez getting it down.

Funny thing about the top, there's only one way to go from there.

Question: Since they went 18-0
Lost to the Giants
got slammed by the Ravens
Lost to the Jets

Is there a big game choke issue here?

I'm thinking it's gonna be a very green crowd in Dallas.

I'm surprised the Jets won. Not that they didn't deserve it or play well but Sanchez has been hot and cold. Now way the Pats played like they had the last few weeks. Not the same team.

Interestingly, as a Jets' fan, I don't think too much of Cromartie. Yes, he made a good return on the onsides kick attempt, although both common sense and football fundamentals suggest he should have fallen on the ball instead of trying to pick it up. He also made one good play in coverage late, breaking up a big pass. The rest of the night he played his usual game, too far off his man to do more than tackle him after the catch was made and the yardage gained.

Overall, the team executed on both sides of the ball. Sanchez looked shaky early but then got more comfortable as the offensive line kept him well-protected all night. All three receivers came up big, particularly Cotchery who made that huge run after the catch on the drive which ended with the Holmes TD. LT and Greene provided another week of solid running.

I can't say enough about the way the defense played. As good as Brady is, and he's one of the best ever to play the position, he is not the same QB when he's pressured. Some QBs like Vick or Roethlisberger actually get better when they're pressured but Brady doesn't. The Jets made the most of that. Big kudos to Eric Smith who made big plays all over the field.

I just hope the so-called experts enjoy their dinner of crow. All I heard all week was how the Jets had no chance because the Patriots beat them 45-3. Not one of them bothered to mention that the Jets had beaten the Patriots this season also.

All I know is, people can hate Rex Ryan and his big mouth all they want. They can call him classless. They can call him obnoxious. They can call him whatever they want. So far he's been the coach two years and we've gone to consecutive AFC championship games. That's pretty damn good in my book.

word.

Enjoy it, man. They earned it. I Hope they keep it going.

WOW!! Congrats to the Jets for knocking off the Pats!! I didn't see that one coming. Of course, now we are treated to another week of Ryan-isms......which to us Philly-folks is Neo-Ryan-isms as his Dad used to run off at the mouth when he coached the IGGLES.

Go PACKERS!! Go Steelers!!!

I didn't recognize the Patriots :nope  The Jets defense did a good job by breaking most of the 3rd attempt of Brady, he seems lost since most of his receivers were well done covered no way to get constant 1st down

I'm intersted to see what Rex does this week as it may be a tougher sell to portray Pittsburgh as an enemy. With the Colts he could hold up Manning as his nemesis, both from the Ravens days and as the QB who eliminated the Jets last year.

With the Pats it was easy as they are the Jets' biggest rivals and the media basically gave the Jets no chance. If you saw any of the post-game interview with Bart Scott, you could see that the media hype around the Patriots was a huge motivating factor for the Jets, and rightfully so, particularly the way they portrayed the Patriots as having some kind of killer defense while never once discussing the Jets defense other than to point to the 45-3 game as if that was the only game they played all season.

Speaking of Buddy Ryan and family, question for you as an Eagles' fan... it's been reported that the Cowboys are about to hire Rex's twin brother Rob as defensive coordinator. You think Buddy will cut Rob out of the will? :)

Home field advantage ain't all the odds makers thought it would be this playoff season. By the time you get to the playoffs, just playing an extended season for the big game is all the motivation most teams need.
I was thinking GB, Patriots but as that's not going to happen, I think Pitt will win with it's defense and shut down Sanchez. And, if Rodgers can play like he did the last 3 weeks, it may not be close in Chicago.

Next weekend is going to be fantastic. Both games should be hard to watch for all fans - though, as has been said, there is potential for the Packers to run over the Bears but I think the Bears will hold their own and keep things very interesting till the end.

The Jets and the Steelers are a good match, and it might be a toss-up game, but this Steelers team has a core that has two Super Bowls already. If I'm looking for a tie-breaker, that level of real experience will do it for me.

I see it as Green Bay-Steelers in the Super Bowl as well, in an ugly game, with the Steelers taking home a seventh Lombardi.
