Oh yeah - Top loading the top three strings gives them more flexability as they are effectively shorter in length, they'll stretch and give easier. With the low 3 going thru the body, they're longer and more taut giving them the maximum 'snap' and the high 3 being shorter makes them warmer sounding - giving me a more equally balanced Telecaster tonally.

My reason for doing this is more about tone than it is about the flexability of the strings.

thats a nice tip!:D never have heard that one before......

So I just got a Tele. Nothing fancy, just an SX STL Ash from Rondomusic. It does have some interesting features though. Like a Strat, it has a body contour on the back and one on the front for your right arm. The neck has a nice cream binding with the markers offset to one side, though I would prefer it to have the normal Tele shape headstock. The wood and chrome look nice, the neck feels nice if not a bit thick. When took it out of the box, I tuned it up, strummed a chord, and....YUCK. The intonation was so far off that the sound made me seasick. The guitar was very mal-adjusted, and I was disappointed at that moment. However, I spent quite a while adjusting the intonation with a tuner, as well as adjusting the action and the truss rod. Strangely, the low E saddle is at almost full adjustment (see photo) and yet it is still a bit sharp when played at the 12th fret. The others I was able to get right on. Does anyone have any suggestions on this? The neck pickup is a little muddy, and the volume pot a bit scratchy, so I will be replacing those down the road. The neck is a little thicker than what I am used to, but I am starting to like that. Despite the issues, I am loving this guitar. It sounds good, feels good, and I think was well worth the $119.

This one looks nice - and yeah, the price is great.

I've recently gone back to just two pickups in my Tele; here it is setting atop my '66 Bassman (in custom Twin-sized 2x12 cab):

I know it's only a Squire, but that particular Squire is better than a Standard Mexican Fender Tele Hands Down!

that tangerine is sweet....just went back and looked throygh this thread and realized my tele doesn't show up anymore...most have changed the web address location so here it is again....

Is that one a MIM? I really liked the '52 reissue that looked very similar (the one I hefted had Springsteen's signature on it), but I would not spend 12 to 13 Hun on it. Not gettin' one now anyhow, but fun to window shop.

Naw that's the realdeal '52.

But I bought it off a buddy for $400 USD, w/ohsc.

Iirc there's a Squier Affinity version though.

Oh dude! You stole it.

threw me for a second. Because of my conversations with Shiner and CB, I'm more accustom to Texas law where "ya all" is used often in place of dude.

Ya all, Herewith, please find enclosed...

Dude, here's the kicker, the deal was sealed in church, so I figured "what would Jesus do," and apparently the Big Guy wanted me to have it, so who was I to stand in the way of Divine Providence?

In all seriousness, when I was playing the church gig one of my fellow players was a dentist with more money than sense (God love him), and he just never played the thing. At the time I had a MIM Tex-Mex Tele and a MIJ Squier (the Squier was in the same color scheme, blonde w/blackguard), and he offered me the '52 for $400. I'm certain he paid a lot more for it (double what I paid, iirc), but he just wanted to see her played. I sold the MIJ Squier to help finance the purchase; the MIJ Squier went to the recording engineer on the Crash Pad (and later the Hotheads) CD.

I think Jesus would give it to a guy in Aurora, OH - you need to see the Divine Providence to completion.

Brian, that is another nice guitar.:AOK:

it's a '52 reissue right....not an actual 1952 tele....

Haha, no, even I'm not that blessed. It's a '52 RI from 1987.

Sleep well, mijo.

Looking forward to it, welcome!

An ash Tele and a '72 Custom RI?

Hi Brian! thanks!

Woops, I got so ahead of myself I forgot to mention what they were! The natural one is an '08 Am Std (yes, ash, man you're good!), the Custom is an '89 MIJ Custom '72RI!.. both are stock standard :)

Any reason why the image would be showing up as a link even though it's in IMG tags?

I've uploaded pics of me & my family of guitars to my gallery, if anyone's curious ;)

Gtwrks, I noticed you have the bridge plate cut in the middle. Is it just to make it easier to switch the bridge pickup? Or any other secrets under it? :)
