Another great album with Mr. Frisell, this time teamed up with the always amazing Matt Chamberlain on drums.

The Very Best of Moby Grape - Vintage

I have all two of their albums on vinyl from the 60s. ;) This was released in 1993. A two-disc CD set including both studio albums, plus a bunch of demos and live cuts...

Sadly overlooked, and imploding from drugs and mental illness early on, this is one of the BEST bands I bet most of you have never heard of. Three guitar players (acoustic and electric) w that rockin' San Fran sound, rounded out w alot of prescient alt-country leanings, superb guitar duels, and melt like butter harmonies. Catch 'em if you can, on CD, MP3...any medium. Highly recommended! :AOK:

Just went to youtube, and I'll be darned if there aren't some Moby Grape vids (some audio only) on there! Here's a great blues tune. The Grape doing Miller's Blues:

A great tongue-in-cheek one minute ballad, "Naked if I Want To"

One of my all-time favorite songs by anyone. I give you "8:05" :

and, if you haven't given up yet, a three-fer! "Omaha", "Hey Grandma", "Changes" :

Hope you enjoyed it!

I added some youtube links to Moby Grape on my original post (just above). Check 'em out! G

I love the Grape. Fantastic first album. So much talent, great songwriting, harmonies, 3 guitars. Everything from bluesy to country to folk to rock.

I agree -- the best 60's band you've never heard of!

I've settled in on SRV and been working some licks (with my mod).

I also possibly figured out why there are days certain guitars sound better than others (comparing ones you own). I think it has something to do with the music you listened to that day. I have been listening to SRV in the car and then dissecting it once I get home - can't put the Strat down to play another guitar.

I saw these guys a couple of weeks ago opening for Nine Inch Nails and Jane's Addiction, and good lord almighty what a set. The album has been in heavy rotation on my morning commute.

Jane's Addiction are back together?

Jimmy Thackery and David Raitt/That's It! Man Bonnie's brother can sing and her dad can too. Sumi:D

As of last year, apparently. They were in fine form when they played here, particularly Dave Navarro. I hadn't realized before what a tremendous player he is.

Listening to this.

On repeat.

A lot.

I'm not sure if it gets any better than Frisell covering the Delfonics, and if it does, I'm not sure I care. This performance has become my new obsession. The tone just gets sweeter and sweeter with each verse.

Now I am too. Thanks! Perfect for today. The sun is out, and this tune fits the mood! :AOK:

Glad you enjoyed it Steve. My evening walks have lately turned into evening runs and the other night I listened to that on repeat for about an hour. I couldn't think of a reason to listen to anything else. :D

But today, the mail just came which means I am about to give this its first listen...

Yesterday was great 80s artists day for me:

'Til Tuesday - 3 great discs

Bonnie Tyler - Collection (inspired by Jimi's Literal Video post. Always thought of her as the raspy-voiced female counterpoint to Rod Stewart)

Juice Newton - Collection (man, in emotive mood, she's the female Gene Pitney. In pop-country mode, her tunes have more hooks than a fisherman's tackle box)

Today is Green Day day:

All CDs they've made, incl International SuperHits, but not incl their latest, as I haven't bought it yet.

Good stuff! :AOK:

That's quite a badass cover, I dig it.

it suits the music within as well. :D

listened to it several times this weekend. it gets better with each listen. it's exactly what i would have expected in a third release from this band, and i'm glad they delivered.
