I've noticed you have excellent taste in music Suhnton.

I was obsessed with that album for a long long time. I've long been a big fan of both Indian music and Mr. Laswell. The combination of the two was like some form of musical crack for me.

Well, I wish that was true.
To be honest, I indulge in more than my share of ear candy as well.

When I was a young kid, my father's record collection totalled about 2 albums/5 LPs (seriously). One was a 4-LP Ray Charles box set and the other was Ravi Shankar live in San Francisco. I developed an interest in Indian music through that album.

My brothers and I returned the favour by turning dad onto The Pixies "Surfer Rosa" album a few years later (he really got into that one).

Although I usually put the iPod on shuffle when I'm driving, this is what I've been listening to this week when I'm not letting random bits decide for me:

Ozzy - Blizzard and Diary. I hadn't listened to this stuff in years. I forgot how amazing Randy's work was. Timeless...if you like that kind of thing.

Bela Fleck - Live at the Quick.

Mark Knopfler - Sailing to Philadelphia

Knopfler will probably always be one of my favorites, although I don't own much of his stuff. I must obtain more...kind of like guitars and amphs.

This morning I am listening to the majority of my Sonic Youth collection on shuffle. Probably will do whole albums again later but for now I don't feel like picking and I pretty much love all of it.

The Pixies will always remind me of my ski bum job after law school but before "real life", where I was the only swing shift prep cook at the Sun Valley Inn with a law degree. We enjoyed having a rude boy existence in the back kitchen, preparing food at warp speed while the Pixies, or Suicidal Tendencies, or RHCP or Jane's Addiction blared on a boom box. I mean, all we wanted was a Pepsi!

I cannot concentrate at work with those songs on now (work is way more mental and way less physical now), and so I am now listening to a pandora station based on Bill Frisell. It is currently playing some sweet Metheny, "Bright Size Life" off of "Midwestern Night's Dream". :AOK: :AOK:

I just have to say that if anyone enjoys mellow, but well played guitar instrumentals while at work, with a variety of great guitar tones by the way, that person should start a Pandora station with Bill Frisell as the seed. It is excellent for office work back ground tunes.

Just picked up Edder Vedder - Into the Wild, some really good stuff. not very hard rocking even a bit folkish but the lyrics tell a good story.
