I bet that isn't all that impossible to accomplish if you play in open tuning. With some practice and a well set up guitar, I think it's doable to do something similar. Maybe not as good as this guy, but... If you stay on 2-3 chords, and fiddle around with the chord tones, I think it would sound okay.

What you need to learn:

1. Right hand techniques similar to those in Flamenco
2. Harmonics all over the neck.
3. Familiarity with an open tuning (as Bob suggested)
